About the adventure

Long ago, disaster struck the Stellar Flare, an experimental starship, causing it to crash into the desert wastes of the planet Akiton. You are recruited by the android Vari-13 to find the wreck and recover its priceless research. The Stellar Flare's remains rest within a vast junkyard filled with malfunctioning tech, hostile beasts, and territorial space goblins. Can your heroes face down a horde of scavengers and brave the wreckage to return with the data - or will you wind up on the scrapheap like so many before you?

How to prepare

Any experience with a d20 system (Pathfinder, D&D 3.5 edition, Mutants & Masterminds) can be helpful since that's the license Starfinder is built on. Don't worry if you don't know everything, though. This is a learning experience, and I can tell you that even after years of GMing, there are still areas of the 350+ page Core Rulebook I'm vague on from memory (to say nothing of all the expansions Paizo loves to produce!). Knowledge of Roll20 basics is also helpful but not necessary. I'll be glad to answer any questions I can about its functions. Note that Roll20 works purely through the browser (no downloads needed) but only reliably on PCs, usually with Firefox or Chrome (no iPads or phones).

What I provide

This game is virtual. I'll provide the Roll20 table (furnished with all maps, monsters, macros, and mood music), the Discord server, tokens as desired, and plenty of tips and tricks to make online play a breeze. I can also provide organized play credit for this adventure via Paizo's Starfinder Society. Note that this is totally optional and doesn't require all players to participate. Oh, and fun. My aim is that we all have tons of fun with this.

Gameplay details

Players can expect a fairly combat-heavy adventure. It is very difficult for player characters to die in Starfinder. Never the less, character death is a possibility (albeit a remote one) for which players should be prepared. I don't do real life politics or religion in my games, and I ask my players to leave that outside the game as well.

How will character creation work

All players will start at level 1. Character creation will take place (for free) on the Discord chat in the days before the first session. You should come to it with an idea of what type of character you want to play (tank, spellcaster, gunslinger, etc.) and some idea of a backstory. If you show up with a full-fledged character sheet, awesome. If not, my promise is you'll have one when you're done. I always recommend starting with what your character wants most. Is it revenge? To find a lost friend or family member? A paycheck and a place to sleep? Whatever it is, that's your hook to start building your character around. I'll do my best to accommodate within the bounds of the adventure as written.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: High
  • Roleplay: Medium
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Beginner
