About the adventure

The season of harvest is over. Soon, the season of storms will be upon you. Tonight, the air is clear, crisp, and cold. A bard came into the village of Emberstalk not too long ago. He wasn’t familiar with the village’s history. He sang of Jack the hero, who traded his cow for beans, who defeated a giant through his wits alone. He was laughed out of town. The real Jack was from Emberstalk. The real Jack was a lazy thief who tried to steal the giant’s livestock, and whose wife cursed him for his crimes to be transformed into a hideous monster. Tonight is Candlewick night, where the village remembers Jack’s crime. As the sun slowly sinks over the horizon, the children of Emberstalk are getting ready to place candles in their windows to keep Jack away.

Additional Details

How to prepare

We will play over Roll20, using Discord for audio. If you would like to use a camera, you can, but this isn't a requirement. I will provide all links to players who have signed up, and contact you to discuss character options, as well as quickly run through any boundaries you may have and the code of conduct for the game, to make sure you are 100% prepared, and we can jump right in when the session starts.

What I provide

This game will feature dynamic lighting battlemaps on Roll20, as well as music composed specifically for the game. I will be using a camera and microphone for this game.

Gameplay details

This is a one-shot adventure where you will be playing a 6th level adventurer who has recently moved to the village of Emberstalk. You will be defending the village from an undead threat, finding out the cause of that threat and the way to defeat it. If you do not have any experience with Dungeons & Dragons, do not worry. If you're not sure how to create a character, I can help you with that or create one for you, and I can support you during gameplay. As this is a one-shot, we will be dropping right into the action - no need to meet in a tavern and talk to a mysterious, hooded stranger. All characters are assumed to know each other from around the village beforehand.

How will character creation work

Characters will be 6th level. They will be created on Roll20. Once you've signed up for the game, I will provide you with the link to set up your character. If you don't want to, or aren't sure how to, create a character, I can create one for you - six pre-generated characters will be available at the start of the session.
