About the adventure
Getting started with Dnd can be intimidating! If this is your first time playing, or if you are returning to the sport after some boring years spent pretending how much you are not-a-nerd, this campaign is for you! Each session we will consider (a tiny bit of) theory and practice before delving full-forge into three different systems. By the end of the campaign you should have gotten your feet thoroughly wet and your mind imaginatively stretched. Session One: Role Playing through the lens of Ben Robbin's "Microscope" Session Two: That Rare Auld Feeling with "Mork Borg!" Session Three: Free Range PCs in the "Dungeon World" Session Four: Conclusion: The Adventure Continues... Microscope is a quick and easy game that focuses on world creation and role playing. The rules are simple. The variations are fantastic. We'll start with this to get warmed up for role-playing with rules! Mork Borg is a rules-light system based on old-school dungeon crawling adventures. It's quick and gritty, and reminds me of the old versions of Adnd we used to play (without all the heavy tomes and necessity to consult the chart every one-and-a-half minutes). We'll play this one to get a feel for the genre. Dungeon World is my preferred system for new players and experienced ones alike. One of the game's mottos is "play to find out what happens". It's an excellent system for story-building and role-playing, but the well-crafted rules keep the game grounded.
