Introduction to Blades in the Dark by Griff's Games

About the adventure

This is an introductory one shot to Blades in the Dark. Blades in the Dark is a heist based game in which you play one of a number of different types of scoundrels in one of a handful of different types of criminal crews trying carve out their own piece of turf in a city full of ghosts, corrupt city watch, and other scoundrels and factions trying to accomplish their own goals. This is for players of all experience levels with RPGs who are curious about trying out Blades in the Dark. The play is fast paced and action packed. More cinematic and narrative than D&D and other similar systems. Even when you fail a skill roll the action still tumbles forward, even if bad things are happening all around you! 1000 years ago a great cataclysm struck out the sun and broke the gates of death and shattered all the old kingdoms, now only the Shattered Isles remains. Our stories take place in the city of Doskvol a Victorian-esque steampunk style city surrounded by a giant lightning barrier that separates the city from the ghost and spirit plagued deathlands. Demons also exist in secret and control many things through their powerful and long lasting machinations...the world is dark and gritty and ever touched by the supernatural. And in this world you and your fellow players will take a premade crew and pick from some premade characters and go on a daring score to learn the basics of the blades in the dark system.

How to prepare

A microphone is all I require, if you would like to use a webcame to broadcast your shining face, you are welcome to do so. No physical anything is required as this is all online. No characters will need to be made for this particular one shot.

What I provide

I'm bringing all the digital assetts necessary for the game to function smoothly, characters, maps, and the pre-written scenario. Along with all the roll-20 and foundry VTT assetts necessary to make the game engaging and interactive and fun.

Gameplay details

This game contains the following potential themes as depending on the players choice of criminal crew: Violence, assassination, drug dealing, murder, various other criminal themes, drug use, drinking, other forms of assuaging vice. But I follow the safety tool known as the X card. Players can private message me an X, Say X out loud, write x in the game chat when they feel uncomfortable with the subject matter at hand and the game will immediately pause and we'll fast forward the scene, no questions asked. Afterwards, i'll privately get with that player to make sure i know what particular thing crossed the line to make sure it doesn't happen again. All of this being said I strive for nothing harder than a soft R rating at my table when it comes to Blades in the Dark.

How will character creation work

Characters will be pregenned. By which i mean, there will be a selection of premade characters ready on the day of play for players to select from...Prior to game day in the discord channel i will discuss with players the different character types and get a feel for which characters are interested in which character types so as to make sure each player is likely to get the character they most want to play.

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
