Intro to Mage the Awakening

About the adventure
A city divided by water has made Magic in the area more stable, but at what cost? North of the Channel the "civilized" Mages hold power, South of the Channel the "uncivilized." Why did this work, how do we work in each others territory if our magic is liable to blow back without much concern. The only mages that are safe are those touched by the garden. Worse yet the rumblings of those of the Throne seem to be unaffected and willing to tempt fate with the city and the Great Fire. You are a mage, you can bend the world around you at will, but bend it to much and the universe takes its toll from you. This game is designed to probe what it means to struggle with near unlimited power and keeping it under control. Will you rely on abstinence and use your power sparingly, or overindulgence and freedom to get what you want consequences be damned? This game will be played in a living breathing world that you help influence, whether from character interactions or player conversations with me and other players of what exists in the world. This game line along with other properties of Chronicles of Darkness are designed to be collaborative storytelling, so it is not fully my world that you play in, but our world that you play in.
How to prepare
A player will need a mic at least, webcam is not required, discord downloaded, their own dice if they wish or to use my dice roller on discord. A player does not have to have a thorough understanding of the rules, but needs to have a bit of imagination and willing to learn the rules as we play. A player does need to have a character sheet for themselves, but doesn't need to resubmit one when leveling up.
What I provide
I will bring the rule book, a discord to interact in, and a plot to hunt down.
World of Darkness use the storyteller system which requires the players to roll 10- sided equal to an attribute and skill to succeed at tests. A usual session will be centered around a current mystery, whether that is a simple murder case or why is magic being so unruly, with the added complications of the character's personal touches and motivations. Safety Tools: I use two major safety tools, X card and lines and veils, with weekly check ins. The X card can be used at any point if a participant is uncomfortable with the content happening in-game. When the X card is used by tapping the card or typing an “X” in the chat, the group can change, rewind, or skip the content. Lines: are subjects that are never brought up or into the game, any player may add to the list. The current lines are: Sexual Assault of any kind. Veils: are subjects that are alluded to but never directly brought up or into the game, any player may add to this list as well. The current veils are: domestic abuse. Weekly Check Ins: is where I ask the group before each game if there is any Lines or Veils that the players would like to add to the list whether on a permanent basis or temporarily considering life happens and we are not fully active in each other's life.

How will character creation work
All characters will be level one and will be made along with me if they desire or if they wish to do a character on their own that is perfectly fine. Though it will be limited to just the core rulebook.
