About the adventure

A world of mystery, horror, and adventure in a box! Players take on the role of investigators of mysteries, uncovering dark secrets, encountering strange monsters, and thwarting sinister cults. Together, you and your friends create and develop a story in which each of your characters plays a leading role, which could be foiling some dastardly plot or stopping horrors from beyond space and time! Learn to play 7e Call of Cthulu with adventures from the Starter Set. You will play either a pregenerated investigator or create an investigator using 7e CoC rules.

How to prepare

Webcam and mic are both necessary. Familiarity with the rules is welcome but not required. Sessions will be hosted on Discord. Bring your dice, some snacks, and send me a copy of your character sheet. I make use of physical rulebooks, dice, battle-mat, and miniatures. Feel free to use digital options at your own preference.

What I provide

I grew up playing TTRPGs with minimal means and I still enjoy the nostalgia this provides. I make use of a physical battle-mat, hand painted 3-D printed miniatures, and the occasional silly voice to emulate the experience that you would typically find if you were seated together around a table. I sometimes make use of props, and I will often need to share documents & images with you online.

Gameplay details

Call of Cthulhu features heavy mature themes and horror content. I also acknowledge that the original author (H.P. Lovecraft) held values which do not reflect my own, or those of common ethical standards. We enter into a place of escapism, and enjoy the aspects of the mythos he has created, while also being critical of his views regarding race. 6 Rules: 1.We are here to have fun. 2.We all come from different backgrounds, enjoy the game for different reasons, and have different takeaways from roleplay experiences. 3.We will agree to enter into a safe space of escapism, and respect each other’s privacy and preferences. 4.Respect one another, the DM, and the sanctity of the game. 5.If there is a real world or roleplay problem affecting gameplay, bring it to the DM in private to work on a resolution. 6.Since we are playing virtually we will be using the honor system for dice rolls, if you cheat you are also cheating yourself and your fellow players (including the DM). Gameplay: I (the Keeper) will provide a world, and the setting. I don't have any pre-written plot. I will introduce NPCs who have their own agendas, and they will pursue these agendas. They will react to the player's actions, but they will do so based on their own personality (so some plans may proceed even if the party is unaware of it). I would like to work with you (the players) to create this world. I have a pre-created world, but if you have some input, I am more than happy to incorporate it. I am also more than happy to take backstory and use that for world building and possible future arcs. So as much as possible, I will avoid railroading you… that being said we are playing a pre-written module. The NPCs will react properly . This means if you go “murderhobo,” this will have consequences (allies turning against you, the law coming down on you, bounty hunters coming after you, etc.) Killing Player Characters: If I am RPing monsters & villains, they will kill if given the chance. I will not pull punches. (Be ready to roll another character, or have a backup. I’ll get you back in as quickly as I can.) Running is always an option. Hard Limits or Nopes: If you have any phobias, triggers, or topics you wish to avoid in roleplay please let me know and I will add it to a list for your group and let everyone know it has been updated. Your submissions will be entirely anonymous and will stay between you and I. This list may grow as we get to know each other and as we develop as human beings. If in doubt, refer back to the 6 Rules. Violations of these limits could result in you being automatically kicked from the game.
