About the adventure

Welcome to Avatar Legends The Roleplaying Game! We'll be embarking on a highly customized journey through the Avatar world during the Hundred Year War era. We'll explore the cost of war, wacky memorable characters, and your characters' places in such a big and wonderful place. This game is intended mostly for newcomers along with veterans who want to kick back and play with people that bring brand new ideas from outside the TTRPG space. I find that newbies tend to offer the most exciting experiences. I tend to run my games fast and loose with more emphasis on what is fun than anything else. After all, you guys are really in control. I love to improvise on the spot when players do something unexpected. Likewise, I'll probably ask YOU to be just as active in the worldbuilding process. Tell me what YOUR character knows, who YOU owe money to, whose foot YOU once stepped on in a crowded theater. It's very likely that they'll be more important than you think. Content-wise, this should lean much closer to Avatar: The Last Airbender. This tends to mean very little (if any) on-screen death and a more family-friendly tone. (Kyoshi did *what* in the books, you say?) This isn't to mean we can't explore complex topics but we'll always be sure to do it in a fun, safe manner. Safety is one of my top priorities. Being both LGBTQ+ and Latino, I understand the importance of making a safe, accepting space where everyone is comfortable being at least a little silly. I use more safety tools than most to ensure the greatest game possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out! It's only fun when everyone is having fun, after all.

How to prepare

Webcam and mics are required. Players are expected to have at least thumbed through the rules to get a basic understanding of how the system works. However, it's not homework! Nobody is expected to have memorized the book front and back and it is very likely that even I will forget rules from time to time. Players will need to install Discord along with have access to Google Sheets as that is where our character sheets are located. It is recommended that players have their own copies of the rules and printable play materials readily accessible.

What I provide

I can provide a large amount of custom materials made specifically for Avatar Legends including searchable technique and move databases, character sheets, and online dice rollers. I even have a form specifically made for those who have to miss a session. I'm the very definition of "extra" so I might come up with more stuff. I'll always run it by the group before implementing it.

Gameplay details

(Note that the content warnings are tentative and more or less may be added following discussion during Session 0) I will send a Lines and Veils document prior to Session 0. Session 0 will include the following * Brief, out-of-character Introductions (Name, pronouns. etc.) * Overview of safety tools. * Debrief and follow-up questions regarding the Lines and Veils. This is where more or less content will be agreed upon. * Overview on how to play * Comfort levels with extra content (Scheduled messages for character-specific events, additional role-play between sessions, physical props, etc.) It is preferable that X, N, O's be spoken aloud but they may also be messaged or held up on video if it's more comfortable. (Note: While I strive to make the most inclusive game possible, it's ultimately up to the players to communicate what they are comfortable with. I consider it a point of pride that I can adjust any game to any group's unique requirements. Please say something if anything is bugging you!)

How will character creation work

Characters will all start at the same base level all Avatar Legends characters start at. They will all be created together at the table during Session Zero and/or Session One. Players should come with some ideas for characters but none fully fleshed out or any one idea they are particularly married to. Note for new players: While not a rule, new players should avoid using playbooks from expansions such as Wan Shi Tong's Adventure Guide. These playbooks tend to be fairly specific in their scope and a bit harder to understand at first. That said, if it really is the best suited for your character than you are free to go for it.
