Icewind Dale: Rime of The Frostmaiden

Dungeons & Dragons 5e on Roll20, Discord

Dungeons & Dragons 5e

About the adventure

Some secrets are worth dying for. Beneath the unyielding night sky, you stand before a towering glacier and recite an ancient rhyme, causing a crack to form in the great wall of ice. Beyond this yawning fissure, the Caves of Hunger await. And past this icy dungeon is a secret so old and terrifying that few dare speak of it. The mad wizards of the Arcane Brotherhood long to possess that which the god of winter’s wrath has so coldly preserved—as do you! What fantastic secrets and treasures are entombed in the sunless heart of the glacier, and what will their discovery mean for the denizens of Icewind Dale? Can you save Ten-Towns from the Frostmaiden’s everlasting night? Original Image: "Frozen Oasis" by Emil L. is licensed with CC BY 2.0. To view a copy of this license, visit

Additional Details

How to prepare

Players will need a microphone to use in conjunction with discord, as well as an account for Roll20. Characters will be made during the session 0, however I do also encourage you to think about what *you* want to play, not necessarily what the party composition needs prior to said session 0. You will need to find character art for your token in Roll20, which can be done during the session 0 but if you have a character in mind already having that art available and ready to go is great!

What I provide

I will have the whole Icewind Dale campaign loaded into Roll20 as well as dynamic lighting available to use. I will be making character tokens during the session 0 as well and setting up dynamic lighting. I have access to quite a few of the source books on Roll20 so the sky's the limit with character creation! I do not allow most spells and classes from the Wildemount campaign setting book and do not have it available to me. If you really want to play something from that book shoot me a message and I'll discuss it with you! The primary goal is for you to have fun.

Gameplay details

This game contains heavy themes of horror and death, and can tend to make players feel helpless from the cruel and frozen wasteland that is Icewind Dale. In order to play this campaign you will need to complete a Tabletop RPG Safety & Consent Checklist. We will be using the "RPG Safety Tools" (A series of cards to move the game along should the topic at hand become uncomfortable for a player) provided by EvilHat Productions on Roll20 during game as well as ending every session with "Stars and Wishes", which can be also known as "Roses and Thorns", or a "Highlight Reel and Wrap Party". The frozen wastelands of Icewind Dale are harsh and unforgiving so keep that in mind as you play!

How will character creation work

Character creation happens during a session 0 before the game starts, and that will always be free. Characters are required to have at least one usable copy in Roll20 but many players like to use the Beyond20 D&DBeyond plugin which is also fine. As long as I am able to access your character sheet if you need help or if you have an emergency we're golden! I do also encourage you to think about what *you* want to play, not necessarily what the party composition needs.
