About the adventure

Promo Video: Hold Me Tight Until The World Ends is a sandbox setting where humanity is faced with inevitable extinction in the teeth and claws of aliens. There is no computer virus that can save us. No susceptibility to the common cold. No supernatural miracles. This is a story about the end of us and how we spend our final years, all of our final years, together. In a lightly modified version of Stars Without Number, but set only in our solar system: You become a Freebooter, a crewmember of a ship that travels the space around Sol. You’ll be delivering goods, handling pirates, and trying to survive as best you can. You will have deep ties to a colony you help build and protect. Shortly after you enter the universe, an unrelenting alien invasion will begin. Over the next few years, humanity will be tested. The reward for passing isn't victory, but dignity. We will leave existence with as much grace and compassion as we can muster. If we fail, we will spend our final months tearing at each other’s throats while the alien menace burns the solar system around us. There is no happy ending in Hold Me Tight, Until the World Ends. Your characters, everyone they love, and everyone who loves them will die. It might happen in game, it might happen off camera just as we end our campaign, but this is ultimately a story about the way we carry ourselves into the dark In Session Zero, we will be generating our characters together and creating backgrounds that with ties that bind us. As a crew, you’ll build your home colony, structure by structure and event by event. When did your family arrive at Port Ariel? What is the secret biological lab studying? Who will be the next mayor? After Port Ariel is completed, we will set off on the (L)AS Frances Clayton to begin the chain events that leads to the end.

Gameplay details

We will be using Stars Without Number, a sandbox 2d6 system in the Old School Revolution genre. The entire game will take place in our Solar System- think of it as The Expanse, but in an alternate timeline. Our typical sessions can involve exploration, trading, and discovering what life is like as the end of humanity draws closer. We will be mixing at matching a few other systems as well for specific moments within the campaign. For example, during session zero, we will be using a heavily modified “A Quiet Year” to build your home colony of the moon of Ariel, a satellite of Uranus.

How will character creation work

In Session Zero, we will be setting expectations, going over themes, tones, talking about the sandbox, and going over some lore. Once finished, we will be generating our characters and creating backgrounds with ties that bind us together. As a crew, you’ll build your home colony, structure by structure, and event by event. What is the name of your colony? When did your family arrive on the moon, Ariel? After that, we will set off on your ship begin the chain events that leads to the end.
