About the adventure

Ghosts of Saltmarsh is a campaign from Wizards of Coast taking place in the titular shanty town of Saltmarsh. A thrilling mix of nautical battles, ancient mysteries, and competing factions trying to gain control of this influential coastal port. If you enjoy fighting pirates, being pirates, exploring ancient ruins, uncovering small-town conspiracies, and putting a stop to nautical horrors, then this is the game for you! This game will be played using DnD 5e rules, character sheets will be created using DnD Beyond, and communication will happen via Discord. Homebrew is welcome upon review and approval. I run DnD to tell exciting stories and help players feel like the heroes they want to be! New players are welcome.

How to prepare

Players are expected to have Discord and mic to talk and communicate. Webcams are not necessary. Dice will be rolled through D&D Beyond via the campaign link to easily keep track of rolls. As such, players are also expected to have a D&D Beyond account (no subscription necessary. I can share my purchases with you via the campaign link along with any homebrew I've made or saved). Besides these two programs, the only requirement is a vast imagination and thirst for adventure!

What I provide

I will have a dedicated discord server for your party, a campaign set up in D&D Beyond to keep track of characters as well as create and share homebrew for your characters. Separate channels will be created for "lounge/general" out of game talk, "table/game talk", and "whispers" for any secrets revealed to some but not all of the party. I will have maps and notes to share (digitally as this is online) when lore is discovered, or I will write up documents for you should your character take interest in a subject I didn't already have something prepped for. I will homebrew nearly anything you wish, and actively encourage players to suggest creative ideas for new spells, items, or anything else their heart desires!

Gameplay details

Session 0 will be to understand everyone's lines and veils, help setting up characters, and prepping you all for the world, story, and themes we'll be playing with. After every session, I always ask everyone if they had a good time, what they liked, what they're looking forward to and any constructive feedback so I can make the experience more enjoyable for you all. At any time before, during, or after a session, players are more than welcome to message or talk to me about any concerns they may have, or specific things they would like me to include in the game. To be completely honest, I'm surprised how many triggers there are for a standard game of DnD, but also given I'm asked to list everything that COULD happen, I've done my best to cover all bases. You enjoying a vibrant world with a good story is what matters the most to me, and I'll work with you to make that happen.

How will character creation work

All Characters will start at level one. Character sheets will be kept track of through D&D Beyond, via a campaign link I will share with the party. Character creation can happen beforehand, but will occur at session zero, along with any necessary help for new players. If your character is created beforehand, I reserve the right to workshop aspects of your character with you to help tie your character into the setting, overarching plot of the campaign, or potentially the backstories of other characters to encourage roleplay between players, not to mention game balance if any unfamiliar homebrew is used.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Medium
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Medium
  • Experience Level: Open to all
