About the adventure

Do you have what it takes to enter the most prestigious and perilous fighting tournament in the world? Do you crave for fame, glory, and a chance to claim a prize from the legendary vault of the sorcerer Hao Jin? Do you dare to face fierce foes, deadly traps, and dark secrets in a land of wonders and mysteries? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are ready for Fists of the Ruby Phoenix, a thrilling Pathfinder 2 RPG adventure path that will test your mettle, skill, and luck in a high-stakes competition that spans across the exotic continent of Tian Xia. Join a team of fighters and compete against other challengers in a variety of combat scenarios, from duels to team battles to free-for-alls. Explore a tropical island full of dangers and surprises, impress the audience with your style and flair, and travel to a hidden demiplane where a terrible threat awaits. Fists of the Ruby Phoenix is an epic adventure path that will take you from 11th level to 20th level, and give you the opportunity to experience the rich and diverse culture, history, and magic of Tian Xia. Whether you are a fan of martial arts, fantasy, or both, you will find something to love in this adventure path. The tournament begins soon, and only one team can emerge victorious. Will it be yours? This is a weekly adventure, played in 3 to 4 hour sessions at the same time each week, through Discord and Foundry VTT. Because of the higher starting level, familiarity with the Pathfinder 2nd Edition rules and your chosen class specifically will be required.

How to prepare

I strongly encourage people to use a camera during games - it helps avoid misunderstandings and generally upgrades the game experience for everyone. However, a good quality headset is enough. You will have to create Discord and Forge accounts if you don't have them already (both free), and download the Discord client if you wish - there is also a web-based version. There is no need for dice or other physical supplies.

What I provide

Everything required to play will be provided electronically, including all the rules required to build and update your character. You do not need to purchase any Paizo material to participate in the game.

Gameplay details

The game contains more than the usual amount of high fantasy violence - including ritualised violence as part of a tournament. In addition, it is set in a mythical setting inspired by real world Asian cultures. As a GM, I do not claim to be an expert in the subject, but I will do my best to represent the setting with respect and sensitivity, acknowledging however that it is in no way to meant to represent real world East Asia. During our session zero, we will use a tool called "Lines and Veils" to established our own limits on how we want to treat sensitive content in our sessions. Additionally, a digital version of the "X" card will be available during play. We will also take at least one fifteen-minute break about halfway through the game time. Finally, at the end of the session we will use a feedback tool called "Stars & Wishes" to allow everyone to highlight moments of the game they enjoyed, and what they look forward to seeing more of in the future. Any language or behavior that makes other players feel unsafe or unwelcome at the table, or that prevents other players from fully participating in the game, will not be tolerated.

How will character creation work

An 11th level Pathfinder 2nd Edition cannot be expected to be created during a game session. Players should come with characters ready using a Foundry VTT character sheet, after reading the free Players' Guide and consulting with the GM. During session zero we will discuss how to turn your characters into a fighting group - the adventure assumes that player characters have a history together and were selected jointly to participate in the tournament. Characters will begin play at 11th level with appropriate equipment. We will be using the Automatic Bonus Progression optional rule. This is meant to allow players to allow all characters to be able to use "martial arts" moves without worrying about appropriate equpment, and to allow for narrative moments like seizing a weapon from an opponent, switching strategies on the fly, etc. Leveling will be with milestones. Any players who join late will join at the current party level with appropriate equipment. You can download the free Players' Guide for more information directly from Praizo at https://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dyo6shmo
