About the adventure

A tale is found, where all was lost. On the bleak and storm-lashed Firimon Coast, a circle of scarecrows stand mounted around the village of Halrune. Behind these mannequins live a people weak and sickly, throwing fearful glances to the light that shines in their lord’s manor window. Eye in the Storm is an action-horror adventure for a party of four to six adventurers of levels 1-3. The story emphasizes investigation, stealth, and tense social encounters. There will also be plenty of combat against roving beasts, the forces of the undead, and the minions of powerful witches. For this reason, a balance of characters is encouraged, while bearing in mind that Halrune Village is a highly orthodox place. The more unusual a character is, the more attention they are likely to draw to themselves, and the less help they will get from the twitchy locals. Finally, if a character doesn't like getting wet, they might be in for a miserable time in these parts!

Additional Details

How to prepare

Mic required. Webcam optional. Minimum reading requirements for the lore may depend on your character and background (you are in a remote wilderness, so not much "local knowledge" is needed; however there may be historical events and landmarks you would be familiar with). No dice or rulebooks needed, since we have the Roll20 compendium. Feel free to bring your own character portraits and custom tokens, if you have them.

What I provide

Dice and rules are provided by the Roll20 VTT. I also have PDF copies of the core rulebooks. The module features a number of art handouts which can be taken away.

Gameplay details

This game features the violence of an 18+ gothic horror setting. However, animal cruelty has been strictly avoided, as have scenes of sexual violence. Nonetheless, the theme of witchcraft and its persecution is a core one, and the majority of NPCs will have entrenched views on religion, gender and morality, as befitting a superstitious Medieval village. Additionally, there are recurring themes of dysfunctional and abusive relationships, particularly between parent and child. Occasional body horror may also feature in the story, as well as fantasy-based racial prejudice (discrimination against elves, distrust of fey, fear of undead, etc.) X, N and O cards will be used to communicate to the GM (via the whisper chat function) if a scene should be retconned, skipped, or continued. Any sexual scenes will be subject to fade-to-black, as will scenes of gratuitous violence.

How will character creation work

Characters begin at Level 1 with 5e Points Buy generation and standard background selections. We will provide a link to the Roll20 dungeon, which will have a number of handouts describing the campaign setting, deities, and available races. We will then conduct a number of ad-hoc "Session Zeros" in the days running up to the event, to ensure character sheets are correctly completed and assigned, and that there are no issues with tokens, dynamic lighting, sound and other functionality.

Players can expect
