About the adventure

'DUNE : Adventures in the Imperium roleplaying game' takes you into the far future, beyond anything you have imagined, where fear is the mind killer, so be sure to keep your wits about you. House Livorno - with its history of internal struggles, brutal familial rivalry, & the tenacity to survive on the war ravaged planet of Liesco II, is a house of secrets and murder. For long ages have the bloodlines of the House Livorno struggled internally, in a constant battle for dominance. Now that subtle war of espionage murder & marriage has, to an extent at least, come to a fragile peace. Ji-An Livorno, beautiful and seductive, has managed to engineer for herself, a web of alliances, & a brood of heirs, so dominating, that finally the house has cohesion. With new stability, it begins to rise, its countless espionage agents, now providing much desired services across the imperium. The produce of its labours, valuable information, letting the House grow ever richer & more powerful, as their spies reach further across the imperium. But Ji-An, is an ambitious woman, & her eyes have been working on a greater prize. Arrakis, the source of all great power and wealth, & a nest of intrigue and betrayal. What better place to send her eyes then there. So, after many years of intrigue, Livorno hopes to place itself deep within the society of the desert planet and hope to become 'The Eyes of Arrakis'. Learn of the flow of spice, the smuggling rings the black market water traders, and much of the houses who have risen, and fallen in the deserts of Arrakis. Learn of the mysterious Fremen, whats threats or promises can they offer? So to Arrakis she hopes to dispatch some of her many heirs, and a compliment of agents, to learn more. In theory, they go merely to assist with the spice mining, setting up their own operation , to ensure the flow of spice. But there is far more to Ji-An's plans. She intends to find all the secrets of Arrakis, and use them to her advantage, and the advantage of her house. Will you join her, and take a once quarrelling Minor house, and hope to raise its fortunes to unimaginable levels? The Imperium is a place of deadly duels, feudal politics, and mysterious abilities. Where noble houses politic constantly for power, influence and vengeance. A universe where a single blade can change the fortunes of millions. Take your characters on a journey through the storied worlds of Frank Herbert's sci-fi masterpiece. But remember always, those that control the spice, control the universe. The game uses Modiphius’ fantastic 2d20 system, customised to perfectly fit the setting. With a simple, yet highly flexible character generation system. A dynamic rule-set, simple enough to allow fast and fluid play, while complex enough to allow great freedom of choice in your adventures. The flow of this game can feel very cinematic. This a very narrative, 'Role-play heavy' game, which really helps to facilitate creative ideas from the players.

How to prepare

A familiarity with the setting is likely more valuable than knowing the all rules well. Even if you only know the setting on a surface level, this should give you more idea of the kind of play and storytelling you might expect. But you are more than welcome to come and join completely cold, and explore the worlds of DUNE as you go. This a very narrative, 'Role-play heavy' game, which really helps to facilitate creative ideas from the players. I would describe this game system as clean and elegant, yet sophisticated. Avoiding the number-crunching of other game systems, the 2d20 system aims for a clean, fluid rules-set, allowing for emphasis on role-play and storytelling. taking a more dramatic, but also tactical, [rather than granular] approach to combat and conflict.

What I provide

The rules, maps & floorplans if and when needed, and several decades of experience running TTRPG's [fantasy, historical, near future and sci-fi] I also try my hardest to be patient and accommodating to players of different levels of experience, and confidence.

Gameplay details

D U N E is a game of ploitics and espionage warfare greed and survival. Many of the characters represented within the tale are brutal, cruel and ruthless. The game certainly has many dark themes. Expect to challenged not just with threats and dangers, but also perhaps ethical challenges, as you seek to find the path of lesser evil, through a maze of wicked choices.

How will character creation work

Players joining the campaign after it is underway, will be given help and avice as much as possible before they start their first session and if joining the game now, Character creation can be dealt with quickly in session, or possibly, ahead of the session if we can set some time aside do do so.
