About the adventure

πŸ”₯ The flames of war have come at last πŸ’€ Sparked by the embers of the past 🏴 Give the lands of freedom a chance βš” Become a hero of the lance! War has found you. After centuries of sleep, evil dragons have awakened. Answering the call of their wicked queen, they burn the lands of all who oppose them. Now you and your band of friends find yourselves fleeing the hordes of the fanatical warlord Kansaldi Fire-Eyes as she marches toward the great city of Kalaman, the last free bastion with the strength to oppose her. Your band is the only thing standing between vicious draconian marauders and the deluge of refugees fleeing the chaos. But even as hope grows dim, the victory of darkness over light is not yet complete. A band of companions can become heroes. Heroes able to lead an army. An army capable of standing firm against dragonfire and plunging a lance into the very heart of the dark queen. To arms, all who would defy the will of tyrants! The time for battle is nigh. This campaign, Shadow of the Dragon Queen, is a war-focused adventure that takes characters from level 1 to 11. Your character and their friends will rise from obscurity to lead armies into battle against a relentless foe and become major players in world-shaking events. This campaign is ideal for someone seeking a tactical challenge, fans of the Dragonlance setting, or those who have always wanted to go toe-to-toe with a dragon.

Additional Details

How to prepare

Have a microphone, a Discord account (which is free) and a Roll20 account (the free tier is absolutely fine). Webcams are encouraged to build camaraderie but by no means required. An understanding of the 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons rules is helpful but also not necessary.

What I provide

Everything else! The Roll20 module comes with a ton of assets that I've augmented with other images, maps, and ambient music.

Gameplay details

I host a Session 0 to cover the following in the first 30 minutes: 1. Introductions 2. Safety tools for the game 3. Adventure overview 4. House rules The next hour will cover character creation for those still needing to make or modify one, followed by cross-character collaboration (determining what ties the characters have to each other, filling in gaps in backstories, etc). After a short break we'll conduct a prelude adventure to dive right into the campaign for the remaining game time. Communication is a process, so expect a pregame check-in to make sure everyone is in a good headspace for the session and a quick debrief to catch any concerns or immediate feedback at the end. The Discord channel is also open between sessions to help set conditions for the table.

  • Stars and Wishes

  • X, N, and O Cards

How will character creation work

I provide gender-neutral pre-generated 1st-level characters (one of each class). If you wish to modify one of those characters or create your own, you may do so during Session 0 using any of the officially published works for 5th edition (that aren’t setting-specific, such as Eberron, Theros, or Strixhaven) using the Standard Array method for Ability Scores (15/14/13/12/10/8). If you prefer to bring a character to the table then that is also fine, but I will do a bench audit of the sheet before it is allowed into play. I am happy to collaborate on weaving in your backstory to the main plotline.
