About the adventure

Welcome to Dragon of Icespire Peak! DoIP is an adventure that takes players from level 1-6/7 as you explore Phandalin and its surroundings in the northern part of the Sword Coast in an attempt to bring peace back to the area. During the Time of Flowers, in the year 1492 DR, a group of travelers arrive in Phandalin, a small mining settlement nestled in the northern foothills of the Sword Mountains. The ruins scattered about its outskirts and the abandoned manor overlooking the town give away a rich history, and the surrounding woods and fields in full bloom fill the morning air with vibrant scents of nature. It's a beautiful day! Yet, as you move through the main street you can't help but notice the tense atmosphere. The people that cross your path walk hurriedly and throw nervous glances toward the sky. You think back and remember the signs of orcs worryingly close to the Triboar Trail on your way here. But you get no further in your thoughts before a thunderous screech pierces through the sky, followed by a crackling sound that leaves you feeling cold to the bone. The skies over the foothills to the south are filled with an icy fog, amidst which you can barely make out a large winged shape roaring incessantly. The town is in panic and doors are closing all around you as people seek shelter from the beast. What do you do? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DoIP is a great adventure for new and experienced players alike. By starting out at level 1 it is easy to grasp the basic gameplay and as you progress through the adventure you will become completely comfortable with all parts of this wonderful game. And for veteran players looking for a chance to immerse themselves in the rich setting that is the Forgotten Realms this is an ideal starting point. With ties to both Neverwinter to the north and Waterdeep to the south, Phandalin is an ideal location for any aspiring adventurer looking to get a foot in with any of the various factions and organizations that work on the Sword Coast. I run my games rather like sandbox games, so even though this is an official adventure released by Wizards of the Coast, it will never play out the same way twice since the world is in constant flux and the PCs are free to explore what they wish. However, since this is a paid game I want to respect that people may want to feel like they actually have experienced Dragon of Icespire Peak at the end of it, so I will be doing my best to make sure that, however quirky the road may be, at the end of it we will all be able to tell tales by the fireplace about Phandalin and the Dragon of Icespire Peak!

How to prepare

I am happy to guide new players through the ropes and teach them the rules as we go along and will do my best to challenge each player on their own terms! Audio/Video: Discord channel (a working webcam and mic are necessary) Ambiance/Music: Shared via Owlbear.Rodeo Maps: A mix between Owlbear and TaleSpire. Basically, any major encounters that can be prepared will have TaleSpire maps and any minor impromptu skirmishes will be played on Owlbear. I have found that this makes for the best use of game-time. Note: TaleSpire is an Early Access game on Steam. It costs around 20$ (although the price may vary depending on your location). It is not necessary to own the game as I will be streaming it. However, if you would like to have control over your own character mini and your own camera angles I highly recommend buying it.

What I provide

I will bring a good mood, an immersive world, tough choices, challenging encounters, and a helping hand along the way! Also, great maps and music :)

Gameplay details

I believe in player-driven games where actions and choices matter. We may explore tropes such as ideologies and faith, love and loss, loyalty and betrayal, essentially, what makes us human. This is accomplished within a fantasy framework. Folklore and superstition serve as a source of inspiration. Death and violence will occur but is never a goal in itself. Romance is allowed, but any sexual references should be kept to a minimum and may be censored. Any additional topics that a player feels uncomfortable with will also be respectfully avoided.

How will character creation work

Characters start at level 1 and should be created on D&DBeyond. This makes it much easier for me to help everyone with questions and to handle absent players' PCs. You may use what official content you own on D&DBeyond to create your character. Any homebrew ideas need to be brought up with me on a case-to-case basis. An individual session 0 of up to 1 hour is provided (even encouraged!) before the first session for free. I do provide some pre-generated characters (using only the Basic Rules) to choose from for anyone who hasn't created a character before the start of the game. We will not spend time creating characters during sessions, so you may either bring your own finished character or use a pre-generated one. In case of character death, a player may create a new character at the current level of the party following the guidelines in the document "Stenhammar Rules and Clarifications"* *I have compiled a document of 3 pages where you can find all my rulings concerning character creation, resurrection rules, some rules clarifications, and some minor homebrew changes (e.g. drink a potion is a bonus action. Nothing major). It is not at all a requirement to know this document, just know that it serves as a guideline for how I make my rulings.
