About the adventure

I will be running WotC's pregenerated campaign - Dragon Heist. Adventure has called you to the City of Splendors! The Crown of the North, Waterdeep, is home to all sorts of fantastical, whimsical, even phantasmagorical happenings, and our story begins in one of the most popular places in all Waterdeep, the Yawning Portal. The Yawning Portal is an enigma, a circular building that, from the outside, is rather tame but is anything once entered. The namesake of this bar comes from a large circular portal in the center of the room, arcane energy frothing from it's mouth. From time to time, the portal elicits a sound the locals dubbed 'Yawning' before it snaps closed, and a fantastical kaleidoscope of colors erupts from it as the portals location changes. Large scrying portals plaster the walls, sometimes playing reruns of particularly entertaining dives, but always changing to give a view of anyone who recently dove in, giving them a chance to show their stuff. In addition to this portal, the buildings enchantments allow it to add an extra layer upwards so there is always a table available, with Nimblewrights literally spawning from the walls ready to take the newcomers orders. Duran, the barkeep, doesn't believe in banning patrons, instead just kicks out those getting too unruly and wishing them well until he sees them again. Do not mistake this kindness for weakness. Duran has often been seen leaping to the rescue of his patrons, whether they need protection from other patrons, or whatever comes from the portal. The City Watch, though they dislike Duran's approach to clientele, cannot disagree that a bar like this can only exist because of Duran's watchful gaze.

How to prepare

Players should have a working mic, a Roll20 account, a discord account, and the Beyond20 plugin / extension. I request players think about a few questions in advance to both help develop a character and to help me think about how to incorporate them into this world. If you are having trouble figuring any of these out, we can flesh it out during session 0. 1.) Where were they born? (Don't worry about specific town names, focus more on the geographical style and I'll help with locations) 2.) Who are their parents, relatives or mentor? Who taught them, what did they do for a living, etc? 3.) What did your character do before they became an adventurer? Were they always in the trade, or did they decide they wanted to see the places in the library books rather than just stocking them? 4.) Hinted at in the last one, why did they leave? (players will get the opportunity to choose one NPC out of a tavern of people during session 0, and that NPC summoned them to the Yawning Portal. The player gets to decide exactly what opportunity enticed them to leave.)

What I provide

I will provide a Roll20 game link as well as a Discord server for us to play on. I will also add each player to a campaign where (I believe) I have all player options unlocked in D&D Beyond. If there is a player option that I am missing, please let me know and I will acquire it for you. I'll also make sure to bring a cheery disposition and a can do attitude!

Gameplay details

There is no pre-scripted extreme content inside this campaign. That being said, the open format of D&D can sometimes lead the story in a direction where everyone isn't comfortable. Players are encouraged to first use the x card system in the event that any disagreeable content is brought by either players or myself, and if we are not able to resolve the issue right there and then, players are entitled to a full refund of the session. I do not allow for non-consensual conduct at my table, and try not to include any real life politics or beliefs at the game table; those things don't exist in Waterdeep.
