About the adventure

Dragon Heist is good for new players as well as veteran Dungeons & Dragons players and very fun to run for Game Masters as well. We will be exploring the seedy back alleys of the fabled City of Splendor; the City of Waterdeep of the Forgotten Realms, on a quest to hunt down hordes of hidden treasures. Or join a guild and begin a profitable business? Or become a guardian of the great city and inspire bards and artisans' craft stories in honor of your glory. Or perhaps you betray and cheat your way into the possession of great wealth and squander it all on cheap thrills and good wine? You and some friends seek out the renowned Yawning Portal Inn and Tavern to find some inspiration for your next adventure. Do you find the inspiration you seek or do you meet your bitter end?

How to prepare

Players will require a webcam and a mic along with registered accounts with roll20 and D&D Beyond.

What I provide

I will have the maps and tokens prepared for the players to play on in roll20. I will also provide pre-made characters for the player characters if they require.

Gameplay details

Please begin the session prepared with a level one character created in the standard way described in the Players Handbook, or I can provide a pre-made character for you. Please feel free to contact me before or after a session if you have any questions about your character. I will be using the standard rules described in the official D&D guidebooks as the main source for gameplay rulings and content. It is not necessary to know any of the rules, new players are welcome to join along with more veteran players. The Dragon Heist takes players through an adventure from level one through to level five over the course of several sessions. Players can expect a high-fantasy adventure consisting of exploring the city of Waterdeep solving mysteries and uncovering treasure. If a player character dies, the player can create a new level-one character to meet back up with the party unless otherwise specified. Role-play and voice acting is encouraged and rewarded during gameplay but not necessary. Combat is preferably kept fluid and relatively straightforward, however, depending on the experience level of the players I will add additional challenges requiring more in-depth problem-solving skills and/or tactical strategy. I use Roll20 to depict the combat scenes with battle maps to represent the setting and tokens as actors within the scene. I recommend using D&D Beyond for character creation. Both are free to register for and use! I feel most successful as a Game Master when all of the players in the game I am running are immersed and having fun. The key to a successful game is open communication and cooperation among the players. I want to run games where everyone feels comfortable playing and expressing themselves in an authentic and non-judgemental way. Please be respectful of the feelings of the other players in and out of gameplay.
