About the adventure

If the drought doesn't get you, the goblins will. The small town of Dovedale is beset by a terrible and sudden drought, the river dried overnight! It could spell disaster for the summer and the harvest if there is no water for the crops. The local farmers are convinced there are dangerous goblins and monsters in the woods nearby. Is anyone brave enough to trek up river and through the shadow of the dense Dalewold? The head of the farmer's co-op has issued forth a reward for anyone brave enough to investigate, but so far none have elected to leave their farmsteads and risk it. But that is only the farmer's side of the story. What will you find up-river? This adventure has a humourous tone and emphasises role-playing and negotiating. This module is from ye olde 1994 Dungeon Magazine, issue #46

How to prepare

All you need is a character concept, willingness to work as a group and a Discord account. There is no need for a webcam, but a mic is appreciated. Foundry is also 100% free for players. We can play by text if needed but that will lengthen the game time compared to voice chat. If you'd like to create the character along with us or bring in an already made character all is good.

What I provide

I will bring everything needed to play the game, including optional pre-made character sheets. Each player will get a custom handout in the first game session. All you need is enthusiasm and attention.

Gameplay details

The first few minutes of the session will be a session 0. Beforehand I'll be sending the link to the consent checklist form to everyone, which will include a spot for your lines and veils. And I'll do my best to adjust the game content accordingly. Then during the session 0 we will: Set expectations and boundaries, discuss the themes and content of the story and the safety tools employed. Working through any questions and requests we may have. As well as helping any who want to create characters, before we jump into the story proper.

How will character creation work

We'll be playing in 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons, with 2nd level characters. Being a oneshot any official material is A-OK besides the Unearthed Arcana. I am pro homebrew and will probably even bring/allow some, but that is on a case-by-case basis. Beginners are welcomed and encouraged. This is a good adventure to start if this is your introduction to the system. We can create characters during session 0, but feel free to bring in a character you already made.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Medium
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Open to all
