About the adventure

Our story takes place in The Sword Coast North, a northwest region on the continent of Faerun, in the year 1489 DR. The story will begin as just a simple paid mission but slowly the character will find themselves in the middle of a war with many sides, most of whom aim to control the Sword Coast for various reasons and the characters will have to decide who to support and who to fight! Introduction: The year is 1489 DR. Our story begins in the city of Neverwinter. Whether your character lives there, or is just passing through, is completely up to you, but you keep seeing these handbills for an escort job posted everywhere. You eventually take one and plan to meet at the Driftwood Tavern as the handbill specifies. Here is where our story will take off from once we all meet Backstory: More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver’s Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin (pronounced fan-duh-lin) prospered as well. But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path. A powerful force of orcs reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost. For centuries, rumors of buried riches have attracted treasure seekers and opportunists to the area around Phandalin, but no one has ever succeeded in locating the lost mine. In recent years, people have resettled the area. Phandalin is now a rough-and-tumble frontier town. More important, the Rockseeker brothers — a trio of dwarves — have discovered the entrance to Wave Echo Cave, and they intend to reopen the mines.

Additional Details

How to prepare

All you need before our first session is to have Discord, a DND Beyond Account, and a Roll20 Account (all of which are free). You will also need a working microphone but that's about it! You are more than welcome to have a webcam on during gameplay in case you like to dress as your character or act out your actions or whatever you like to make the game more immersive but I don't have a webcam myself so no pressure to anyone else who doesn't or doesn't want to

What I provide

So the Discord channel I've made for us to keep track of the campaign will have maps for you to reference whenever you like along with any other items each character is given like notes or handbills etc. As for Dice, the DND Beyond website has a really nifty tool for dice rolls and easily incorporating your skills and abilities to each roll so we will be using that!

Gameplay details

Players can expect a fast paced and light rules based combat heavy gameplay but combat isn't always the only option (most of the time), you can always roleplay your way out of things (if your charisma is high enough) and likewise you can decide that violence is the answer in situations that don't clearly permit it (i.e. deciding to punch a guard for not letting you in somewhere)

Content warnings

Safety tools used

  • X, N, and O Cards

How will character creation work

Ideally, before our first session, I'd like to personally go through character creation with everyone one on one so that you really have time to ruminate on backstory or change certain options about your character before we all begin. This will also make it so that our first session we can just jump right into gameplay. Each character will start at lvl.2 and we will go through character creation on DND Beyond so that I can easily keep track of everyone's character sheets and be able to easily help you if you are having any trouble or confusion about the character sheet

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: High

  • Roleplay: High

  • Puzzles: Low

  • Experience Level: Open to all
