About the adventure

The Cult of the Dragon recently sacked and razed the town of Greenest and has begun transporting stolen goods along trade routes to Baldur’s Gate and Waterdeep. They have established a small presence in the woods north of Elturel to conduct rituals to Tiamat and prepare treasure for shipment to Baldur’s Gate. This adventure is designed for three to-seven 1st-level characters and is optimized for five characters. Baldur’s Gate: The Fall of Elturel serves as an alternate introductory adventure for Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus or Tyranny of Dragons. My style of play is quite similar to Matt Mercer's delivery: Silly voices, descriptive narration in and out of combat, and atmospheric music. *Disclaimer: Near the end of the session this one-shot can get pretty dark. If you feel uncomfortable with gore and horrific themes/descriptions, please consider taking a pass on this one.

How to prepare

A mic, headphones, and decent connection are required; rules can be explained as we play and gone over days prior to game start when we create characters. I have access to Syrinscape, a powerful online soundboard that everyone can connect to and prefer using it to deliver atmospheric music and sounds, however it does require everyone to download an additional program to run it (albeit small).

What I provide

Virtual compendium, roll20 maps and sound designs, and digital pictures that accurately represent the one-shot we will be playing.

Gameplay details

This is a one shot, a prequel to the events in the official published adventure Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus. You'll experience about a 50/50 ratio of roleplay/combat with some lighthearted beginnings and dark themes at the end. We'll start with introductions 5 minutes prior to game time then jump right into the story! You can expect descriptive combat and narration, sound effects, atmospheric sounds and music, and dynamic lighting. This game is rated R for intense graphic descriptions, dark themes, and stronger language; it contains the following themes: • High Fantasy • Gritty Fantasy • Horror • Supernatural The following safety tools are available during play: • X-Card - A tool that allows anyone to edit out any content anyone is uncomfortable with as we play. Since most RPGs are improvisational and we won't know what will happen till it happens, it's possible the game will go in a direction people don't want. An X-Card is a simple tool to fix problems as they arise. • Open and Inclusive Conversation - While the X-Card is useful, it is not a replacement for conversation. If you prefer to talk about an issue that comes up instead of using the X-Card, please do!
