DM-Ethan's Advent in the Mountains
Dungeons & Dragons 5e on Discord, Tableplop, Theater of the Mind
About the adventure
This is a 8-12 week mini-campaign for levels 4-5. The party makes up 4-6 members of a small, growing mercenary company that was most recently chartered out to participate in some of the ongoing battles between 2 of the 4 great powers. Recently, they've been summoned back to the home territories and into the mountains. After taking a small fort-city back from some brigands allied seemingly allied with devils, they await reinforcements and their next mission. I use different voices for each of the NPCs in the game, and the adventure can be roughly broken into 3 chapters. Gameplay will be a mix of theater of the mind and moving tokens on my hand-drawn, digitally painted maps. The adventure has 2-3 dungeons and a mix of roleplay and combat, depending on how you play it. It has a pretty even mix of roleplay, exploration, and combat, with 1 or 2 side-quests in addition to the main story. Set in a homebrew world influenced by medieval Europe, Spelljammer, Tolkien, and Forgotten Realms. Who I am - tabletop gaming tenure: off and on 15-20 years - Currently running: three 5e games, 2 are campaigns, 1 (this one) is a mini-adventure - Currently playing: one 3.5 PBP; two 5e virtual games - System experience: 5e, 3.5, Pathfinder, Dungeon World, Remember Tomorrow, Monster of the week... - Have run 2-3 PBP games and played a good chunk of PBP as well, and have run 2 campaigns to completion (1-2 year durations) DM style - Strengths: narrative, challenge, and fellowship. I appreciate Fantasy, and I've added voicework and descriptive language to my repertoire recently. - Extras: hand-drawn maps, voices - This is a one-shot, so it won't be the best for just open-ended, poking the world style play - There will be a mission, you all will try to complete it, your approach and your rolls will influence what degree of success/failure you find - My combats certainly encourage tactics, learning/using enemies weaknesses, playing to your strengths, adjusting to each unique battlefield This is voice-only over Discord, with a free VTT for dungeon exploration and/or combats. The Discord channel is also decked out with all the things we'll need for campaign tracking, world resources, character creation, etc. We'll need a Session Zero to hammer out the details. Current Schedule: January 2021 - March 2021 (FULL, 5/5 PLAYERS, FREE) TBD (OPEN, 0/5 PLAYERS, FREE)
How to prepare
You need Discord + mic Starts with a session 0, make characters during the week after, and come to session 1 with character sheet + signed in to the virtual tabletop
What I provide
I like to draw battlemaps and dungeons, so this adventure will have those to play on! As well, we'll use theater of the mind when things get off the rails, or for certain situations that arise outside of the traditional roll initiative + combat
Pretty even mix of roleplay, exploration, and combat with an overarching narrative, and a small dose of side-quests. Each adventure plays out a little different since characters can submit backstories which I'll use to weave into the plot.
