About the adventure

Deep in the Yatil Mountains lie the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, formerly occupied by the legendary archmage Iggwilv the Witch Queen. Though Iggwilv is long gone, her lair is anything but empty. Can you brave the threats within and find fortune before succumbing to danger? For 9th level characters. Part of the D&D 50th Anniversary Play Series available for free on D&D Beyond.

How to prepare

You will need: ~A Discord account. ~A decent mic. ~A webcam (this is not a requirement, but is recommended). ~The ability to access your character sheet at all times, the willingness to speak with strangers over the internet (forget what your mom and Disney Channel told you as a kid) ~The knowledge that you are not the main character of this story but your group as a whole is. ~The knowledge that while I might try I am not Matthew Mercer, Brennan Lee Mulligan, or any of your other favorite Podcast DMs. I'm Gwyn and will DM as Gwyn does! ~Basic knowledge of how the game works or a willing attitude to learn. Lastly, there is something to be said for audio quality, outside interruptions, and WiFi strength. While I would never reject a player for the quality of their mic, it's rarely fun to have someone come through on a potato and be asked to repeat themselves. It can break immersion, tension, and game flow. I know of many cheap and easily accessible mics with decent sound quality and am more than willing to assist players in locating them be it online or locally to them. WiFi dropping mid game and Interruptions such as pets (although everyone loves a cat cam), children, and family all have the same issues listed above. These don't just effect you, but everyone at the table including me so I ask we keep considerate of everyone!

What I provide

I have been told I do great character voices and I have to agree it is a strong suit of mine. Embodying an NPC is one of my favorite parts about DMing and honestly one of its greatest joys. While I understand it can be hard to speak up sometimes, I expect all my players to be present. There is only so many times I can describe a scene before no one talking gets awkward and I can't control your characters for you! Take actions, ask questions, make rolls. When in doubt ask your party what they think, don't just wait for them to offer the information, and don't wait to offer your own ideas either! For modules such as this I prefer to keep to "Rules as Written", but generally I am a "Rule of Cool" DM and often dole out inspiration for bad puns. This is a game after all, it's supposed to be fun. We can save the gritty realism play for another time. Material spell components will only be required if they have a gold value and are consumed by the spell. (Ex. Identify calls for a Pearl worth 100gp, but it is not consumed by the spell. We can assume if you have prepared this spell then you already have such a pearl in your component pouch. As such you will not need to purchase such a pearl and like wise you may not sell this pearl. The spell Revivify calls for Diamonds worth 300gp, which the spell consumes. You will need to source these Diamonds in game before you can cast the spell, and those Diamonds must be removed from your inventory after use.) This campaign will begin simply as a theater of the mind game until our group gets a feel for the setting and their characters. I've found table top maps with tokens can often complicate things for players and it is easier to describe surroundings and show photos of maps. Once the game gets going and everyone is more comfortable we may move to a VTT such as Roll20.
