About the adventure

It's June. It's 1931. It's the depression. You are living in a three story boarding house owned by Ma Shanks. It sits near Federal Hill in Providence, Rhode Island. Prohibition is at its height, and you, like most Americans, are struggling financially. You live here with other boarders. You have your own room, but it is crowded. There is a kitchen, dining room, parlor and pantry. The dinners are good, and the company mostly good. Right now a fellow boarder, James Gardiner, is your focus. He hasn't been seen in a couple of days. And he owes you.

How to prepare

You should have a mic. I do not use web cams. I find them distracting. You will need a Roll20 account. We will try to use the Roll20 audio features instead of Discord, but if necessary we will resort to discord for voice. So make sure to have a discord.

What I provide

I will bring my GMing skills, pre-made character, maps, tokens, and the rules for Call of Cthulhu, and provide a link to the Quick Start so you can have the rules if you don't.

Gameplay details

This is a Call of Cthulhu adventure. It involves horror of some sort. This adventure does not contain as much as most, but there are rituals, denizens of other worlds, tombs of ill repute, and sadistic rituals included. Player Character death is always a possibility, but the GM will not spend a lot of time describing violence or harm. Most descriptions will revolve around tension rather than out right gore.

How will character creation work

This game, like all my demos, will be using pre-made characters. This helps us get into the action quickly since it is only a one shot. Players will select from a variety of characters via a lottery system.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Low
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Low
