About the adventure

A 2-3 session workshop/adventure for the ZERO EXPERIENCE to learn about playing D&D 5e. We'll cover the game basics and character creation in the first session. With a one-shot adventure in the second. Generally to help the curious understand the game before you jump into other mid-running campaigns. While D&D isn't exactly the easiest RPG to get into, its the most recognized (and the most advertised here). Like PC games nowadays, I'm your first 10 mins of learning the menu screen. Keep in mind, I'm offering this as to help new people learn the RPG experience. So feel free to explore "what does what", how things work and other game related concepts. There's narrative, interaction and combat. Put you on the edge maybe, but its not out to kill players. Though if it does happen BLAME THE DICE ... heh.

Additional Details

How to prepare

At minimum ... players should have Discord and mic. Prior reading of rules ahead will smooth the learning curve but its not a prerequisite. Players who have game questions will be assisted via chat/PM. Some material will be made available to players, however I do encourage that where possible to support the license holders via purchase of material. Specifically the D&D 5e Players Handbook.

What I provide

Dice, maps, enough book material to get games moving.

Gameplay details

D&D in the 5th Edition (5e) has one of the fastest character generation process. However, to many people who haven't touched it ... its still "alot of reading". So this sessions are about guiding the processes and helping to figure out questions such as ... Where to look ? How to decide ? and Does my wizard have enough spell slots for magehand to pinch keys from a prison guard. Among other things that the session will help players explore beyond writing up their characters, is a short adventure. Ie, now that the character is written, then how is it played? Players/participants will get opportunities to figure how not only attributes apply but skills and their consequences. Both in success and "1s".

How will character creation work

Players should have necessary book materials for reference in order to fully participate in the game. This being the Player's Handbook (PHB). If not, some material will be shared in order to keep the session moving. For this event, players will spend a full session being guided about elements of the character creation process and about the game rules. There is no limit to player choices in terms of ideas and party composition, but is still level restricted as not to overload the learning process. Generally the session will cover A > Z of the character creation process with some guidance about deciding between options.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Low
  • Roleplay: Medium
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Beginner
