About the adventure

In Temple Thieves: Kingsmark, your characters have been contracted by the beholder, Lord Tyranax Calyops, a major crime lord (sorry, art lover) in the sprawling, multi-tiered, island city of Kingsmark. Lord Calyops wants you to ... acquire ... certain items for him from various "probably abandoned" temples, tombs, churches, and such around the vast city. Shouldn't be a problem for skilled adventurers such as yourselves. Oh, and even if, for some reason, there's just 1 or 2 players for any given session? The game will go on!

How to prepare

You'll need a webcam and mic (the former isn't absolutely required, but it's nice to see everyone). We'll be using Roll20 for this game, DnD Beyond for character creation, Discord for out-of-game discussions, and World Anvil for Session Summaries. All dice (including the GM's) will be rolled in Roll20.

What I provide

Oh, the things you'll see. Covenant is a vibrant world with a long history, which you will find detailed on the World Anvil page for the setting. Every session will also have a summary on the World Anvil page, laid out as 'journal entries' from the players who wish to offer one in-character.

Gameplay details

Temple Thieves is primarily about raiding, y'know, temples ... possibly some tombs. Each session will be a one-shot as your characters break into a ruined (or not) temple, church, tomb, barrow, or cult hideout and steal whatever it is your patron wants (and whatever you want to pick up along the way), so there will be a lot of old school dungeon delving with traps to overcome and monsters to slay; but there will also be political intrigue, dark secrets, romance (sure, why not?), and role-playing opportunities galore. Come for one session or four here and there, or come for the 'campaign': a whole progression of adventures in your geographical area that culminates in a special multi-session grand finale somewhere down the line: Temple Thieves: Shattered. AND ... there are multiple Temple Thieves series available. There's the flagship, Temple Thieves: Kingsmark, but there's also Temple Thieves: Shard Barrier, and Temple Thieves: Calimphar, with the possibility of players bringing their characters from one geographical area of the world of Covenant to another. But you don't have to commit to the whole thing. Come for a single game, or for ten, or for all of them -- it's up to you. Temple Thieves may contain material not suitable for all players; discretion is advised. I tend to keep it pretty PG-13 to soft R, but we will also be using gaming Safety Tools such as Lines/Veils/and the use of the X-Card to make sure that everyone will be comfortable during gameplay, all of which will be discussed and revised (as needed) at the beginning of each session.

How will character creation work

We'll use DnD Beyond for character creation and link that to the Roll20 page. Don't worry: I'll help out if you don't know what any of that means. Character creation will be progressive, starting at Level 3 or two levels below the average level of the characters active in that session, whichever is higher (though feel free to request Level 1; Covenant is a wide, wild world and ya gotta start somewhere). There ARE some world-specific particulars when it comes to race and class, mostly having to do with flavor, but we'll discuss those prior to play. Because of the unusual nature of this 'campaign' we won't have a traditional Session 0 where we make characters and talk about expectations -- those things will happen in the Discord channels for your game.
