About the adventure

In the county of Providence, home of the legendary hero, a new evil is rising. A cult dedicated to the spread of demonic influence on the mortal realm has carved open a pit into the realm of demons, the Pit of Ziz. A powerful demon lord amasses power inside, and is gathering an army to unleash slaughter untold upon the land. The High Church is to busy in their own business to help, and so the Lord Protector of the Providence is forced to turn to unlikely allies in his time of need. A knightly order composed of witches, monsters, and misfits to society that's mission is to prevent the spread of demons and evil monsters has been called for aid. This order has sent over the Witch Queen Mardona and three squads of knights to face off against this threat before it can bring devastation to the lands of the mortal realm. You are alpha squad, composed of: Ahmani, an Alchemist Barbarian that uses their potions to gain brawn to match their brains. Tarrys, an Elven Rouge tied closely to the wayward spirits of the world. Marila, a potent fairy White Witch who specializes in both healing and debuffing magic. Elanore, a Warlock to the First Vampire, who uses crafty magics in conjunction with enchantment magic to warp the minds of her foes. And last but not least, Caulteron, a former inquisitor and werewolf, who uses is specialties as a Ranger in conjunction with his experience to face spell casters with ease. Your objective is to head into the cavern near the demon pit to defeat the cultists that are using a ritual to keep Witch Queen Mardona and the other two squads from entering the Demons foul lair as it amasses power. Should you fail, Mardona will be forced to break the runes herself, greatly weakening her ability to face the demon lord, but should you succeed, you will go down as legends in the history of your order. Are you prepared to face the Tribulations of Terrible Torrents and put an end to the cultists that so readily sought to cause the spread of destruction to the mortal realm? This is a narrative one shot run in conjunction with two other one shots that will result in different outcomes depending on the success or failure of your group. After all of the one-shots are completed, a narrative write up of the events after the dust has settled will be sent to the players, the outcome of which will have lasting impacts on my homebrew setting. I look forward to weaving this narrative with you, the other squads, and the hand of fate known as the dice.

Additional Details

How to prepare

A Discord and Forge account (both free) are required for this campaign. A reasonable quality microphone and limited background noise (or use of push to talk) are required. A decent understanding of the rules of 5th edition are highly recommended as we'll be playing at higher levels.

What I provide

I will provide a convenient library of modules to streamline and enhance the gameplay experience. Characters will be made and ready for use in VTT. In general, I stick to the rules when it comes to combat, though leave enough room for cool and heroic moments, so long as the dice allow it. NPCs will be voiced with distinctive tone and inflection to help separate characters from each other. Expect four to six combat encounters broken up with a short rest and a few moments of respit for roleplay encounters.

Gameplay details

An X, N, & O's module is built into the VTT we are using and will be explained at the beginning of the One-Shot. A group break and brief debriefing will be held roughly 1.5-2 hours into the session or whenever is convenient to the narrative. During that break, a brief debriefing will occur to ensure the comfort of the players and that everything is moving in a direction the party is happy and comfortable with.

How will character creation work

5 Pre-Generated 11th level characters will be provided for this one-shot. At the start of the session, unless a group concession can be met on who wants to play what, players will roll to determine who they play as. A decent bit of my homebrew collection has been added into the characters, but will be explained thoroughly to each player.
