About the adventure
It's the '90s! 💿 Heartfelt ❤️ Light-hearted fun! 😸 Juggle the responsibilities of a day that will determine the future of your record store, all while trying to accomplish a big personal goal! Can you confess your love to your crush AND find the money that went missing from the cash box? Can you pay off your debt to your parents while promoting tonight’s big show? The clock is ticking and you’ve got until midnight to try. Winner of the 2018 IGDN Award for Best Rules, Hannah Shaffer's Damn the Man is inspired by movies like Empire Records, Dazed and Confused, and a love for the ’90s. You'll play a group of punks, outcasts, and weirdos fighting to save your ’90s indie record store from succumbing to the Man. It’s silly and heartfelt and no familiarity with the source material is necessary to enjoy the game. EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT: Sign up at least 48 hours before a session and get $5 off! Gameplay details
Damn the Man is an RPG about music, growing up, and dreaming big in a world that wants to make you small. It's rules-lite, suitable for first-time roleplayers and veterans alike, and evokes a spirit of camaraderie, counterculture, and teenage rebellion. The tone of the game is meant to be light-hearted. Nevertheless, we will have X-cards available so that players can play them at any point during the game if something being said makes them feel unsafe. When an X-card is played, we will rewind and re-describe what's happening in the story. We will also, at the start of the session, state our lines (content we don't want appearing in the game) and veils (content we don't want described graphically).
