About the adventure

This homebrew setting stars you, an adventurer turned privateer. Starting at 5TH LEVEL, this adventure is for adults o18+ as the lifestyle of a buccaneer is full of bloodshed, booze, and bo–BEAUTIES. Yeah I was gunna... beauties. Oh and we can't forget booty. The Scarlet Sea is a vast chain of islands that were once mountain peaks. Monsters and men climbed their way upward in the ancient myths and built monuments to their arrogance which are now ripe for the plunder in their millennia of absence. Yet you are not the first to think of taking all the treasure for yourself. The great and legendary are on their way too: new rivals old enemies, and friends if you've got a heavy purse! Its just too bad the captain is dead, who will take her place? I have expertise in the 5e ruleset so I am open to nearly all homebrew you may want as a player. There will be negotiations if the content is broken. With a Session 0 to capture expectations and boundaries, I am more than confident that you'll enjoy this campaign. There will be a balance of each pillar of play, adjusted according to the group's preferences. Schedule: EST 10pm Fridays. EACH Friday. F r i d a y s. 10pm EST. Weekly.

How to prepare

Hosted on Roll20, primarily theatre of mind. Have your mic ready, no cam necessary. If you don't know the rules to 5e then I can teach them to you. However, I recommend learning as much as you can ahead of time about role-playing etiquette and the basics of TTRPGS which is you roll a die and I the DM describe the outcome. You can make a character ahead of time OR wait until session 0 to coordinate with other players. Remember, you're already part of the crew! As for dice, you may use your own dice you have in person OR use the Discord Bot.

What I provide

I will provide nearly everything else necessary to run the game except for your the player, discord, your mic, and your imagination.

Gameplay details

A LOT can happen for a Pirate Campaign. In session 0 I'd like to get everyone on the same page about the potentially serious and overbearing tone of content. Once we can figure out what is unacceptable for the table I can narrow the scope of how evil the world is. Aside from session 0, xno cards, the open door, and lines and veils should be good enough in my opinion.

Content warnings

    (none)

Safety tools used
  • Lines and Veils
  • Open Door
  • Session 0
  • X, N, and O Cards
How will character creation work

We can create characters together or you can bring in a character beforehand. I don't mind either approach. You can use D&D beyond sheets, google sheets, anything really as long as you know what you're using. A player new to D&D may ask for help and I will guide them through the process. Special Point Buy: You purchase the positive modifier instead of the score. As in if you have 1 point you turn a score of 10 (+0) into the next step up 12 (+1). Each player gets a total of +7 to spread to a maximum of +4. So for example you put +1 in each stat that leaves you with +1 left. You would end up with five scores with +1 and one score with +2. You may make scores go as low as -1 for example one score at 8 (-1) so that you can have +8 to work with. Examples: Wizard min maxed Str 8 (-1) Dex 10 (+0) Con 18 (+4) Int 18 (+4) Wis 10 (+0) Cha 10 (+0) Undecided Bard Str 12 (+1) Dex 12 (+1) Con 12 (+1) Int 12 (+1) Wis 12 (+1) Cha 14 (+2) Barbarian with a hobby Str 14 (+2) Dex 14 (+2) Con 12 (+1) Int 14 (+2) Wis 10 (+0) Cha 10 (+0) After point buy apply your species bonus which according to Tasha's and further books. All species permitted, homebrew species with negotiation. Also, any version of a species such as Satyr and Yuan-Ti which were nerfed in updated sources. (I have a weakness for Satyrs.) Your background need not be Sailor or Criminal or Pirate. Homebrew with negotiation. Feats and Extras For making it this far through the sales pitch you will start with a free feat describing your role as part of the crew. Do not choose captain. Anyway example Chef for Cook, Alert or Observant for Navigator the options are flexible to role. All feats are permitted, homebrew with negotiation. Lucky you. ;) In the Session 0 we will decide who is the new captain. As the previous has died. Mandatory Character Creation Decisions: Know how to swim House Rules: I have a ton and that is because I am a rule of cool DM which means I disagree with the system I use frequently. Why not use a different rules set? Idk I love to mod the game I am comfortable with rather than learn something new and properly fitted and balanced.
