About the adventure

Under raging storm clouds, the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind’s howling increases as he turns his gaze down toward the village of Barovia. Far below, yet not beyond his keen eyesight, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd’s face forms the barest hint of a smile as his dark plan unfolds. The master of Castle Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited. Beginners and veterans of Dungeons and Dragons are welcome! Typically my games are role-playing intense. I bring full sound packs with me for almost every location, all maps from the books, and I also generate art for some things I'd really like to show off! Every player gets their character's art generated from them. I use Midjourney, and you are free to show off your art or use it as you'd like! (Disclaimer: AI art is a computer algorithm trying to understand what your character should look like, and sometimes it does not like certain details. I've learned how to get pretty close to what most players might want, but its not always a one-to-one translation.)

How to prepare

Players will need a mic and I strongly prefer a webcam. If you have any questions, please ask me ahead of time (There are no dumb questions, this is about you having the most fun you can, not about worrying about a rule question or anything like that!). Character sheets will be tracked through DnDbeyond. I will send the link for it as players join the game.

What I provide

I will bring shared content on DNDbeyond, which will provide digital dice. I also bring the maps from the adventure module. I use Syrinscape for audio, and after their latest update, you shouldn't need an account to listen! I also use an AI are generator to provide players with character art as soon as we have a character description down!

Gameplay details

The campaign will start with a session 0/ and a "Lines and Veils" discussion. I will ask everyone to send me their lines and veils and I will announce to the group what will be allowed and what won't be. Session 0 will help finish character creation, however, I hope most characters are close to being done by the time session 0 starts. During this time, I will ask questions to help players figure out how to think about their character and ways to be more immersed. I will then go over my DM'ing style, which will include how I run combat, social encounters, etc. For combat, I like to take a fast approach that helps players feel more in the heat of battle. Mainly, I like to announce the AC of the enemy as combat starts and then I will ask a player for their turn where they don't have to ask me what can they do, they just say what their character does and rolls their dice to see if they succeed or fail, and then announce to the group exactly what that looks like. For social interactions, I love to see players become their characters. This could look like doing a voice, or body language, but most importantly, I try to help players' and characters' emotions become one. Overall, I try and make a complete storied experience that engages players. With a combination of narrating you into mythical and dangerous scenarios, helping you feel like your character, and with awesome art and audio to back it, I hope that this gives you an experience like none other!

How will character creation work

Players should have a story for their character and a character sheet prepared. I will provide help expanding on the story in session 0 and as we go through the campaign. If players have any questions, please ask away! Also, if players create their story and send it to me ahead of time, that allows me to prewrite some things to help certain the story on their character!
