About the adventure

Step into the world of Krynn, a land devastated by apocalypse and forsaken by gods, now threatened by a rising evil army. In this long-term, story-driven D&D 5e campaign (using the Shadow of the Dragon Queen module as a framework), your characters will start at 2nd level and evolve to 13th level as they weave their destinies into the fabric of a world on the brink. As heroes, you will uncover ancient secrets, forge alliances with rebuilding factions, and confront formidable foes, taking center stage in defending Krynn against dark forces. This campaign is designed for both newcomers and seasoned players, offering a profound adventure where your choices determine the fate of a world emerging from shadows. Ready your weapons and spells, for Krynn calls its champions to rise! As an important note, this is a fairly grim and adult game, taking place during a war. Nothing will be implemented for mere shock or discomfort, and there will be room for levity, but be aware that the overall tone will be quite serious, and you can expect darker themes to rear their heads.

How to prepare

The only websites/programs required are Discord for calling, and Roll20 for the game! D&DBeyond is an optional tool, and if you join the campaign via D&DBeyond, you'll have access to all my digital materials. I will also have a Google Doc titled "Josh's Dragonlance Primer" available if you join the game, which I recommend you read. This will have information about the world, its inhabitants, its history, and the nature of things like magic. This is not required reading, but it will make things much easier for you!

What I provide

I have the module on D&DBeyond, as well as the module and extra maps on Roll20. I can also create custom tokens using HeroForge, provided I'm given a description of your character! This game might end up a bit loosey-goosey in places, but overall I plan to play things pretty by-the-rules. That being said, I am always down to hear schemes and plans that are tough to execute but wildly creative. Don't worry about holding back, but expect to hear plenty of "yes, but..."

Gameplay details

Session 0 will likely be pretty deep. On top of discussing character creation, we'll be going over the game's setting and history, as well as the intricacies that come with it. I also plan to go over some things to expect in the game, including content warnings and plot themes. As per usual, I'll prepare a Lines and Veils document on Google Docs that everyone can fill out, so we're all on the same page about what's alright to talk about and what we shouldn't touch. If at any point a break is needed to either step away from the game or discuss it, I encourage it. I hope to handle this game with gravitas, but war stories come with stressful scenarios, and I understand if anyone needs time to de-stress from that.

How will character creation work

Character creation will happen during Session 0, and I can help folks between sessions 0 and 1 if they aren't able to finish in that time. I'll provide more details on player options during Session 0, but in brief: - Everyone will be starting at 2nd level, using the Standard Array or Point Buy rules, playing only as Humanoid species found on Krynn, and starting with a free feat. - Magic users of any kind in this setting are very, very rare. I would prefer for no more than half the party be spellcasters, and for no more than one character to be a divine caster or healer (ex: cleric, paladin, Way of Mercy monk, etc.). I'm open to discuss this, but that's my preference. - While the characters aren't required to already know each other, they are required to know an NPC named Ispin Greenshield. He is the man who will bring everyone together, and each character is somehow a good friend of his. He just has that effect on people.
