About the adventure

Congratulations! You are now a trusted Troubleshooter for The Computer in Alpha Complex! * Use your wits and quick reactions to uncover and eradicate traitors to Alpha Complex. * Misdirect, bribe, or outright lie to further your personal goals without getting caught by fellow Troubleshooters * Always keep in mind, The Computer is your Friend Further information is clearance level ULTRAVIOLET ------------------------------------------------- This is a series of introductory scenarios designed to introduce players to Friend Computer, Alpha Complex, and the general vibe and gameplay of Paranoia. You don't need to worry about character creation. Heck, you aren't even expected to know the rules in order to play! Embrace the uncertainty and chaos No effort to create characters or familiarize oneself with the rules is required on the parts of the players - in fact, showing up to play without knowing at all what to expect makes it more fun!

How to prepare

All players will need to join this game is Discord, a working mic, ideally a headset (to cut down on background noise), and access to a web browser. Dice rolls can be done in Owlbear Rodeo, a browser-based dice roller and VTT, but if you prefer to clack the math rocks at home that's fine. You don't need to be familiar with the game's rules! In fact, players not knowing the rules is baked into the rules! It is nice but not required to find time before the session to chat on Discord, go through the character creation process, and have some Session -1 time apart from all other players to go into more detail about your character and to share private information about their motivations, allegiances, and so on. Paranoia is, after all, the name of the game. That shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

What I provide

* A wry, darkly humorous gameplay experience * A necessarily sardonic take on Friend Computer and Alpha Complex you won't find anywhere else * A whole lot of narrative space for your characters to make decisions and thrive, or die trying * Over two decades of experience running TTRPGs, crafting engaging scenarios, and rolling with the punches as players do the unexpected

Gameplay details

Paranoia is not a typical TTRPG. If you have never played a TTRPG before, that's perfect, because Paranoia does not require players to know any of the rules of the setting or the game to have a fun time. If you have prior experience with RPGs, there is one thing you need to unlearn to really lean into the Paranoia experience: Other player characters are not your friends. Other non-player characters are not your friends. Trusting other characters is a good way to end up in trouble, or worse. Only The Computer is your friend. Characters are all pregenerated, and discussions on lines not to cross regarding problematic content will occur during the first 15 or so minutes of the session.

How will character creation work

Characters for this mission will all be pregenerated so anyone with any level of experience with the game can jump right in. Character sheets are stored in a Google Drive folder that you'll get access to when we make characters Choice of character will be first come, first serve. You'll be able to take a look at your options and select one that appeals to you; you can then make any cosmetic decisions like sex, gender, appearance, etc. After selecting your character, you may receive additional, hidden information about them such as mutant powers, roles as double agents or spies in Alpha Complex, membership in secret societies, and so on.

Players can expect

  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Low
