About the adventure

Sarah of Yellowcrest Manor came to Candlekeep five years ago, courtesy of a Waterdavian apprentice mage named Sirok, who bought the book at a street sale. It was part of a collection once owned by the renowned Yellowcrest family of Waterdeep. As he presented the book as payment for entry into Candlekeep, Sirok told the Avowed priests a grim story of how the patriarch of the family, Lord Yellowcrest, had returned to Waterdeep from a business trip to find his wife, their three children, and the house’s four servants all murdered. In the aftermath of this terrible loss, the grieving lord sold all his possessions, then moved away from the city to live out his life in solitude. Sirok never got around to reading the book, and his story about the Yellowcrests was something he learned from gossiping acquaintances. The dark pedigree of Sirok’s donation was soon forgotten, and Sarah of Yellowcrest Manor was cataloged and placed into the library’s archives, where it has gone unnoticed ever since.

Gameplay details

We'll be using D&D's three pillars of play: exploration, roleplaying, and combat. The care and well-being of everyone at the table comes before the game or story. For safety, I use the "X" card as well as lines and veils. Since most RPGs are improvisational and we won't know what will happen till it happens, it's possible the game will go in a direction people don't want. The X card can be used at any point if a participant is uncomfortable with the content happening in-game. When the X card is used by tapping the card or typing an “X” in the chat, the group can change, rewind, or skip the content. Lines and veils are used to set boundaries on content in a game. Lines are hard limits on content, things that the GM or the players don’t want to engage in. Setting up a line means that content won’t show up in the game at all. Veils are soft limits, things that are ok “behind a curtain” or when they “cut-to-black.” Setting up a veil means that the content might be in the game but not spotlighted or described in great detail. Lines and veils can be adjusted as needed throughout the game. There is always an Open Door. Players can leave or take a break from the game for their own safety and well-being at any time without being judged. I have a zero-tolerance policy on racism, homophobia, ableism, body shaming, transphobia, and misogyny, including microaggressions in or out of game. Not sure what those are? Find out more here:

How will character creation work

If you would like a custom character, you will need to create one a minimum of two hours before gameplay and notify me. All players will be able to use the character builder tool and sources from my dndbeyond account. The link will be sent upon approval to join the game. Otherwise, you will have your choice from some basic pre-generated characters. I can provide assistance in character creation as well. Message me for more information.
