About the adventure

"Call of the Gentle Paladin" is a Dungeons and Dragons adventure where players drawn into a mysterious quest when the individual that summoned them, Jared, disappears after a visit to a peculiar carnival. As they journey through puzzling challenges and a foreboding temple, they unravel clues about Jared's disappearance and an ancient evil manipulating events behind the scenes. The adventures will confront a villain with a tragic motive, leading to morally challenging decisions. Choices made by the players shape the narrative, impacting their relationships with allies, enemies, and ultimately the world's fate. The adventure explores themes of sacrifice, the nature of evil, and the potential for redemption. In this story, the adventures resolve and moral compass become their most potent weapons against the darkness. Through combat, negotiation, and moral decision-making, they will shape the world teetering on the edge of chaos.

How to prepare

For my game, players will need a microphone in order to communicate with the other players and myself during the game. A webcam is not required, but it can enhance the experience and help players connect with each other visually. I recommend that players read the basic rules ahead of time to familiarize themselves with the mechanics of the game. However, I am happy to provide guidance and answer questions during the game as well so please feel free to ask. I would also recommend watching basis tutorials on Roll20 on how to play. This helps out tremendously. a good link is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTuOa2Ba2_w

Gameplay details

In Session 0, I like to cover a variety of topics to ensure that everyone is on the same page and has a clear understanding of the game world, their characters, and the expectations for the campaign. Some of the things I typically go over include: Campaign Setting: I provide a brief overview of the world and setting, including any relevant history, politics, or cultural norms that players should be aware of. Character Creation: I provide guidance and assistance with character creation, including any house rules or restrictions that apply. I also encourage players to share their character's backstory and personal goals, which can help inform the direction of the campaign and create a more engaging and immersive experience. Game Mechanics: I explain the rules and mechanics of the game, including any modifications or house rules that apply. I also encourage players to ask questions and clarify any rules they may be unsure of. Expectations: I go over my expectations for player behavior and engagement during the game, as well as any social norms or expectations for communication outside of the game. Regarding aftercare, I believe in providing a safe and supportive environment for all players, both during and after the game. After each session, I like to check in with players to see how they are feeling and address any concerns or issues that may have come up. I also encourage players to reach out to me if they need support or guidance outside of the game, whether it's related to the game itself or not. Finally, I use Discord to communicate with players and share important information about the game, including the X, N, and O's. These messages can be an effective way to provide feedback and address any issues or concerns that players may have, both during and after the game.

How will character creation work

The starting level for characters will be discussed during Session 0 and will depend on the campaign and its difficulty. As for character creation, I am flexible in terms of where and when players create their characters. Some players may prefer to create their characters beforehand, while others may want to create their characters during the game. If players choose to create their characters during the game, I will provide assistance and guidance as needed. If players choose to create their characters beforehand, I ask that they share their character sheets with me prior to the start of the game, so I can ensure that all characters are balanced and appropriate for the campaign. Players are welcome to create their characters using any official sourcebook, and I am open to discussing any homebrew or custom options on a case-by-case basis.
