About the adventure

Welcome to the Burn, Olaxians. That's right, the Burn ... a cosmic event that's eaten away all of the universe save for the Olaxis Galaxy. Sure does make for a pretty sunset, don't it? Well, it also makes for a whole lot of crowded planets. Overcrowded. And a whole lot of nearly empty ones, all filled with ruins out there in near the Burn itself. But that's not your concern today. Won't eat up the rest of the galaxy in YOUR lifetime ... probably. You're on Ozobny, a small pleasure planet of good food, casinos that mostly aren't rigged, and lots of free-flowing drink, for much needed downtime. Not likely to be any trouble here, right? Right? Burn Bryte is a space opera ttrpg designed by James Introcaso, game designer and co-author of Critical Role's Explorer's Guide to Wildemount. In it, you play one of a small band of space farers trying to make your way as best you can in an ever-shrinking universe. Time to make a name, and a future, for yourself...in the Burn! Whatcha waiting for? Daylight's burning, after all.

Additional Details

How to prepare

You'll definitely need a microphone and a connection to the internet, what with this being an online game and all. I'd love it if we could see your beaming face via webcam, too, but understand if that's not feasible for whatever reason. If you want to come hang out in my Discord server and chat with me or each other beforehand, that's great, too. And there will be a space there for writing in-character 'journal' entries, also, if you like. I'll drop links to all of these things in the preparatory material. Otherwise, bring your imagination and a sense of adventure.

What I provide

I'll have pre-gens, tokens, maps, and all sorts of goodies prepped in Roll20, just waiting for us to show up and start adventuring.

Gameplay details

The system relies on the use of eighteen different skills. Skills are assigned a die from d4 up to d12, and success or failure is determined by the presence of double results (failure) after rolling. (ie. Glysin wants to hack the system and uses Computers. The GM informs them it is a Complexity 3 roll. Glysin has a d10 in Computers and rolls 3d10. They get a 3, 10, and 4, which means they are successful in their hack). Rolls are narrative and justified by players, with their actions determining the results. GMs don't roll, but rather let players respond to the world and handle oncoming threats. Combat is made to allow players be the heroes they want to be, while also keeping the narrative flow of the story. Burn Bryte, contains the following potentially disturbing material -- CW: fire, explosions, lasers, kidnapping, terrorist attack, and violence. We will also be using a variety of safety tools, including lines, veils, and a 'safety deck', as well as an open-door policy, all of which we'll go over at the start of the game.

How will character creation work

You will be provided pre-generated characters before the start of the game, chosen on a first-come, first-served basis, or you can create your own! But if you haven't made one or picked a pre-gen by game start, we'll get you set up with one of the latter in the first few minutes of the game!
