About the adventure

Under a black broiling night sky, a flash of lightening illuminates if only briefly, a lonely castle perched atop a rocky spire. Far below the gloomy edifice, the flicker of lamps can be seen in a village from which a mist creeps along the ground like clawing, crawling fingers. The haunting call of a wolf's howl echo's through the valley breaking the unease silence which permeates. From within overgrown forests, glowing eyes peer ever present from the deep darkness, seeming to beckon in any unfortunate soul not stealing themselves against their charms. Another flash of lightening crosses the sky drawing your eye to catch a glimpse of a single figure standing atop the highest tower of the castle. A black cowl pulled high over their face to shield themselves from the cold nights wind which bites like a razors blade. Thunder rumbles followed by another great flash in the sky. A wicked smile crosses the face of the figure as with a single motion they hurl their body from the top of the tower and plummet towards the rocks below. But before any grave harm can come to them, their body transforms into a wisp of black mist that travels at supernatural speed into the valley below. As the mist flies over the village below and out over a winding road to the east, it passes over a small band of travelers on the road huddled together around a fire against the dark and terror around them. The mist materializes a small distance from them into the same stalking figure. Again that familiar evil smile crosses their face revealing pearl white fangs. Their eyes flash red as the scene fades into black oblivion. The fates have drawn you together and pulled you into the mists and into the dread filled land of Barvoia, domain of Strahd Von Zarovich. What evil awaits you as you venture into the unknown, all the while under the watchful eye of your ever watchful host. You will be drawn together into the lands of dread where you will need to keep your wits about you to survive the horrors to come within Barovia. You will be immersed into the setting of horror and uncertainty that will challenge you and your companions. For our adventure I am presenting the adaptation of Curse of Strahd, She is the Ancient as written by Beth the Bard. I am drawing upon this material as well as my personal experiencing having run Curse of Strahd as well as She is the Ancient. This game is open to all experience levels. Most of my games have included players completely new to Dungeons and Dragons and I always love sharing my passion for the game with people just finding it for the first time. *No experience with D&D but you've always wanted to try? I am very beginner friendly, and love introducing new players to D&D.

How to prepare

-Having a Discord account and D&D Beyond account. -A mic for audio, webcam is optional and dependent on your comfort level. -If you are new to D&D a quick overview of the players handbook is recommended but not necessary.

What I provide

I bring my experience running the Curse of Strahd adventure. I bring a wide range of resources on D&D Beyond, as well as a Discord page for group discussion and game play. I will be using Discord for game discussion and gameplay and D&D Beyond for character creation, dice rolls, and maps. I bring my enthusiasm for the adventure and for running horror themed games. I love the sense that the genre can bring to the players being drawn into the world that has fallen into dread and despair. I heavily embrace the "rule of cool". I believe the rules exist as a guide to get into the game but that if you have something you can articulate doing within the game that sounds awesome, I want to try and make that work for your game experience.

Gameplay details

Curse of Strahd covers a wide range of possibly troubling subject matter. Our session zero will go over any potential issues and I will do what I can to not unnecessarily trigger you as my players. If I can remove a subject that you find to be specifically troubling, I will. I encourage you as the player to let me know what your limits are and I will do my part to stay within those limits. My door is always open and if anything comes up along the way I will always be available to you.

How will character creation work

For this campaign I highly suggest creating characters with a dark past, hidden secrets, or something they are trying to find in life. Giving them some tie to the Domains of Dread can also lend itself to cool story hooks. The characters you make are what I feel really give the story life. Character creation will happen during our session zero. Characters will be created on D&D Beyond. Your character will start at level 1 and progress to level 10. For stats we will be using the point buy system. Character options are open to all classes and races. I believe in letting my players have freedom to be the character they want to be. My job as the DM is fitting you into the story. My one exclusion is no firearms.
