About the adventure

This will be a game of D&D 5e. The campaign setting will be Dragon of Icespire Peak, though if some of the players are experienced, their backstory can and will be incorporated into the tapestry of history as events unfold. To give a brief overview to players, you will be tasked to help the town of Phandalin prosper and survive via quests, errands and ultimately defending it from a fierce dragon named Cryovain. This game will be run on roll20.net and in combination with voice comms and picture inserts into a discord server that will be set up for each unique party that I DM for. As for mechanically how the game will be played, I can run the game through roll 20 with maps, directions and fog of war, I can run it "theater of the mind" style or I can run it as a mixed bag, it is entirely up to the party who choose to play. Furthermore, if the party want or do not wish for things such as encumbrance, coin weight, ammunition and spell components, all of these can be discussed. This is a game for you, and I am the humble DM to facilitate and challenge you as a team.

Additional Details

How to prepare

a microphone, a roll20 and DNDbeyond account at the free level are the only main requirements needed to join. As mentioned in the previous sections character creation can be done in the first session and I will also be offering one to one 1 hour mini sessions to help new players learn to roleplay/set up a new character. I will be using what I own to content share with the players. !!You do not need to use a webcam if you do not wish!!

What I provide

Dice will be used on roll20.net, maps will be imported into roll 20 and unfortunately I am no artist so I wont be able to draw reference pictures for the party

Gameplay details

Players can expect the following scenarios with as much of or as little as they wish. Roleplay in communal hubs such as the town they currently habituate, Combat with unique challenges, Mini games such as gambling in a tavern, riddles and puzzles to challenge the mind rather than the blade/arcana. As the player you can meet a person in the tavern and simply say "I want to know more about that person" and whilst it may take a minute for me to write information down as I go, a full reply with detail will be created on the spot. The rule of cool will apply in certain circumstances alongside the option of house rules (see previous passage for a couple examples). One combat orientated house rule that can be added or ignored is if the party is facing a pack of something, such as a band of orcs, and this isn't an intended boss battle I can instigate an instant death criteria. How this will work is if the player rolls a natural 20 to hit, I will ask them to roll the hit again to "confirm" it. If the second roll also passes the AC check of the foe, then the player will instantly kill the combatant they are striking with some RP flourish added. A potential homebrew addition I can add in the RP perspective is a "profession" system in which over the period of campaigns the player can learn how to for example... Skin animals to collect pelts for sale/food to cook during the campaign, learning to cook foods to for the potential of temporary hit points or collecting herbs to make potions cheaper to purchase.

How will character creation work

the first session of the campaign's first hour will be setting up characters if they wish, the player/'s can also choose to pre set up their characters and any backstory they wish to add can be sent to me pre session 1 or created in the first hour. The "hook" of how you all will be banded together is the "Company of Adventurers" this is essentially a mercenary guild that takes out contracts, helps the local cities and makes money to support the company.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Medium
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Open to all
