An intro to 5e Dungeons and Dragons with Discord and D&D Beyond

About the adventure

This one-shot will take place in my normal campaign world with one minor difference. We are going to take the time to stop as needed to answer any questions or challenges you might have as a new player to the wonderful world of D&D 5e. This is a 5e sandbox setting that focuses on the comings and goings of the City of Winter Fog. The theme and story will change based on what the characters players bring to the table. There is ample opportunity for role-playing and combat encounters. The focus is on the story that your characters naturally encounter over forcing a round peg into a square hole. As such ... Welcome to the city of Winter Fog and the Land of the Fallen. As the land and the sea meet all worlds collide. Winter Fog is ruled by the Grand Council of priests with their army of warrior monks. Three large temples and an uncountable number of smaller shrines to the gods can be found throughout the city. Winter Fog is broken into eleven distinct districts with their own culture but at the heart of the city sits the Spire of Mist, the oldest structure in all of Winter Fog and the home of the wizards guild. Yet the spire is far from the only unique thing to be found in Winter Fog. Like many cities, one can find the darker sides of city life as well as the common folk. One will find many races and cultures within the city from the lowly Goblin to the mighty Dragonborn. Yet not all are at peace as many fight for their own power or simply to survive. The city of Winter Fog needs heroes and you may not know it but that hero could be you.

How to prepare

Players will need to be able to use voice chat on discord as a minimum. This will require you to download the Discord App for free. You will also need to sign up for a free D&D beyond account for character generation and ease of play. At this time it is all you will need to join the game. You will find further directions on how to set these programs up in our discord channel. Please send requests to play 24 hours before the start time of the game to allow for adjustment to the game. I am not able to check throughout the day due to work. This also gives you time to build your character and get linked to the other players.

What I provide

I will bring a D&D beyond account for character design. This includes the player's bundle plus a few other options. Make sure to join our campaign on D&D beyond before character generation to have access to all the options available to you. We also have a Discord channel with chat for pre-game discussion and questions. This chat option allows for session zero discussions without cost or taking time out of gameplay. Please post any concerns ahead of the game so we can discuss your concerns.

Gameplay details

Open Door The Open Door is the assurance that someone can leave or take a break from the game for their own safety and well-being without being judged. Red light green light I use the stoplight system to communicate concerns in the game. Red ... stop, and move on. Yellow ... caution, discuss and move on. Green ... Ya we can go on with that. Used after a yellow. If you have any themes that make you uncomfortable please inform me before the start of the game on Discord so that I may accommodate you accordingly. My games tend to be rated PG-13. Violence: The game violence level can be intense with the occasional bit of blood and decapitations that might give that scene an R rating. If this is an issue please let me know. Language: The use of language may include the occasional sexual profanity (F-bombes) and vulgarity but such language is kept to a minimum. Substances: I do have substances use in my game including alcohol, smoking, and a magical drug. Again if this is an issue for you please contact me. This is a judge-free space. Nudity: You might encounter nudity in the game (more than brief) but it will be of a nonsexual nature. The occasional skinny dipping or a dried walking in the woods under a moonlit night that fit with the story. Sex: All sex and other forms of intimacy will be hand waved if it comes up in the game. I will never be the instigator of these scenes. Other: If you have any other issues or concerns please let me know before the game. If you have any lines (hard limit) and veils (soft limit) that you would like me to be aware of please take the time to inform me of them. I would rather not cross a line I did not know was there and I try to avoid veils. I request at least 24 hours to adjust the story as needed so please contact me if you have any concerns.

How will character creation work

Characters will need to be created on D&D beyond and linked to the campaign/ game. It is preferred characters will be submitted ahead of time to allow for story development. If you need any help with making a character this can take place on discord ahead of game time. I am happy to schedule time for a voice chat or we can just text in chat or private messages. I use a Standard area for stats. The following races are available for play. Prevailing Race (Mundane) ... Players can expect
