About the adventure
Adventure in the Alien Universe! You've just completed a 3-month rotation on a construction gig on LV-501 and are getting close to being able to enjoy a well deserved furlough. Your relief is about 2 weeks out from taking you back to a sky you can relax under and air you can freely breath. Maybe something interesting will happen to you while you are waiting for that old ship to arrive? The game will start with the characters on the surface of a hazardous world, cooped up inside a habitation complex that serves as the base of operations for a construction site that will someday house a massive atmosphere processing plant. The characters are mostly finished with their contracted duties, and are spending the extra time they have on their hands looking for ways to improve their respective bonus situations. It is a dangerous world that will someday be a paradise if one can believe the posters that are all over the place. Until then, you can't go outside without a pressure suit. And what's with the rumors floating around about missing equipment, materials, and as of late even personnel? Well... somewhere in all that mess there's bound to be an extra buck or two to be made before you finally get off of this rock.
How to prepare
Players will need a grip of six-sided dice, some of a specific color. See that image of dice in the description? That sort of thing. Players will also need the tools necessary to participate in an online game session. Webcams are not necessary, but a mic certainly will be, as well as an account with Discord (where we will chat as needed in the days leading up to the game) and Zoom (where we will ultimately play). I have a Discord server where we can make use of chat a few days prior to the game so that we might introduce ourselves to one and all by way of text. It will also serve as a forum so that we might be able to address any concerns and/or expectations from the game in lieu of a session Zero. From there I will post a Zoom link on the eventually scheduled day that will lead to the game proper.
What I provide
Pre-gens are available to be handed out before the game, though I have an on-line resource available for player who wish to create their own characters beforehand.
The game uses the Year Zero Dice Engine. You build a pool of six-sided dice based on your abilities, skills and circumstances and try to have at least one of the dice result in a "6" in order to accomplish a given task. No "6s?" No problem; you can try a Push and re-roll any or all of those dice again, but it will add to your character's Stress levels. If your Stress get too high, you might lose a bit of agency over your character here and there. This is an Alien game, meaning it will start as a slow burn that eventually builds to a high panic. It begins with exploration and mystery, hits you hard with blinding violence, and then gives you a chance to re-group and plan your next move. With luck, yours may be among the lucky few characters that survive! Please be warned; Alien is a tad lethal as RPGs go. The first few players that experience unfortunate ends will be allowed back into the action with backup characters, but in that last 90 minutes or so we shall all reap what we sow collectively. I hope we all have fun getting there together!
How will character creation work
Pre-gens are provided by the host but resources will be made available for players to create their own characters prior to the game as desired
