About the adventure

Space is vast, dark, and not your friend. Gamma rays and neutrino bursts erupt from dying stars to cook you alive, black holes tear you apart, and the void itself boils your blood and seizes your brain. Try to scream and no one can hear you—hold your breath and you rupture your lungs. Space isn't as empty as you’d think, either—its frontiers are ever expanding. Rival governments wage a cold war of aggression while greedy corporations vie for valuable resources. Colonists reach for the stars and gamble with their lives— each new world tamed is either feast or famine. And there are things lurking in the shadows of every asteroid—things strange and different and deadly. Things alien. This is the ALIEN roleplaying game—a universe of body horror and corporate brinkmanship, where synthetic people play god while space truckers and marines serve as hosts to newborn ghoulish creatures. It’s a harsh and unforgiving universe and you are nothing if not expendable. Stay alive if you can. This is the Alien RPG scenario called "Hope's Last Day," in which up to 5 players play the colonists of "Hadley's Hope," the iconic location from the James Cameron 1986 movie, "Aliens." The scenario takes place on the eve of the marines' landing on LV426, and tells the tale of the last remaining survivors of that fated "shake-and-bake" colony. Players will be roleplaying one of five pre-generated characters, exploring the dark, eerie corridors and interiors of the doomed base, discovering its dark secrets, and hopefully by game's end, living to tell the tale!

Additional Details

How to prepare

Although the rules are based on the acclaimed Year Zero Engine, used in award-winning games such as Tales from the Loop and Mutant: Year Zero, they are adapted and further developed to fully support and enhance the core themes of ALIEN: horror and action in the cold darkness of space. If you have played those games before, you have a headstart. If not, no big deal - we will go through the mechanics before the game starts. Please make sure that you have a good mic and/or webcam and a good internet connection. Please also have an account on Roll20 so we can get started as soon as possible. Dice rolls and all character sheets will be utilized in game via Roll20. The starter set rules will be shared once the invite has been sent to each player. Although prior knowledge of the game is not expected, it is a nice to have.

What I provide

All art, maps, sound, and music will be provided over Roll20.

Gameplay details

The Alien RPG is relatively new, and thus requires a bit of explanation of the ruleset for new players. I expect this game will take about two hours, with perhaps 30 minutes at the start to go through game rules. Pre-generated characters will be used for the scenario, and we will be using sound effects and music from the Alien universe. This scenario is not for the faint of heart, and involves body horror, adult themes and language, and overall expect a "Alien" movie feel to this. I can't lie to you about your chances, but you have my sympathies.
