About the adventure

When the fog is creeping, And the moon is low; When the town is sleeping, Gauntlight starts to glow! That’s when she arises For her midnight lunch. Naughty kids are prizes For her teeth to crunch. But if you obey me, And obey the rules; You’re safe from Belcorra; She just eats the fools! So warns a popular nursery rhyme among the parents in the town of Otari, as they often sing the melodious but unsettling poem to their children at night to encourage good behavior. As a result, everyone who grows up in Otari has a healthy mix of fear, respect, and curiosity for the old ruins out in Fogfen and the strange lighthouse that stands at the swamp’s heart. As they grow older, townsfolk learn what’s more often accepted as truth: that the heroic founders of Otari had slain the wicked sorcerer Belcorra many years ago. For a time, thrill-seekers explored the ruins around the lighthouse called Gauntlight, but today, common knowledge holds that the place has become a haven for pests—no longer a source of active danger or significant treasure after being completely picked over. Nearly 500 years has passed since Belcorra’s defeat after all, and in that time, she has only posed a menace to Otari through sinister rhymes. Or so the citizens of Otari believe. The abomination vaults adventure path is a megadungeon designed to take your characters from 1st to 10th level. A player's guide is provided to help fashion characters that will fit the adventure as well as provide some basic information about Otari. With so much to explore, players can expect at least one fight per session, if not more! Most of the roleplay will arise depending on the character's reactions to the encounters, as well as the time spend interacting with the folks of Otari.

How to prepare

Although you can prepare a character in advance, I will be going over creation in session 0 so it is not necessary. As a base, you will need a solid internet connection along with a good mic in a quiet room. Headphones are not necessary as long as we don't hear any echo, and a webcam is optional. I myself like to use video when playing any TTRPG and will, most of the time, be on video to mimic, gesture, and hopefully bring some more color to the action. Apart from that, as long as your pc can run discord and foundry in any browser together without any issues, we should be good! Enthusiasm and passion for the game is always welcome at the table!

What I provide

I will bring the Abomination vault adventure path as well as premium foundry module, along with a forge-hosted foundry server for everyone to connect to. A private discord will be made for the game where we can keep track of notes, the schedule, and roleplay should anyone want to do some outside any sessions. I've got some homebrewed additions to the adventure I'll be bringing that should seamlessly slot in to what's already there, along with some more audio variety to the already great tracks the module brings.

Gameplay details

Session 0 is where we will take a longer look at all of the gameplay details, see what it is most players are looking for in their pathfinder experience, talk about what happen if anyone does not show up, etc. We will go over some more details regarding the lines and veils, and talk about the open door, what happens if someone has to step away. Paizo provides a great player guide for the adventure that can help craft characters, we'll take a quick look, talk backstory and character creation at that point as well as game mechanics if anyone is new to the system. If you'd like to have a look at the guide yourself, here it is: https://downloads.paizo.com/AbominationVaults_PlayersGuide.pdf Session 0 is also a great time to iron out the possible technical issues that may arise. We're going to make sure everyone's mic is working, that everyone's PC is able to run foundry without issues, and that everyone is able to connect to the game, all the basics. In case anyone's new to foundry we'll also take some time to set it up and explain the basic controls. I try to take a 5-10 minute break halfway through the session, I'd rather not hard-schedule it and go with the flow of the game in the moment. Sometimes I get lost in the experience, and need to be reminded. Of course, anyone is free to remind me at any point that we should take said break !

How will character creation work

Characters begin at level 1, you can bring a pre-made character to session 0 if you'd like, and you'll have until session 1 to have it done. PF2e has a huge amount of customizability in regards to character creation, and I've yet to see most of what can be done with the system! So going over the characters is a way to make sure everything's ok, as well as a way for me to understand their abilities once they come up in-game. There's this little website most PF2e players know called pathbuilder that will immensely help with the creation. So again, if you're new, no worries. I generally allow everything I deem to be fun as long as its justifyable via backstory and within the rules. Just ask before choosing anything categorized as uncommon or rare. We will be using the free archetype rule, and talk in more details about group composition and classes over discord.
