About the adventure

Growing up is rough, especially when you're cursed. Not that anyone believes you. And your parents, agh, your parents...they chalk up this 'curse' to puberty. But that's not right. Eight years ago, you snuck into the Witchlight Carnaval, and eight years ago, something clawed into your soul and took something. Your memories are fuzzy, like it was all a dream. Was it a dream? No, that can't be right. It happened. It must have. Must in it? Eight years later, you're standing in line to enter the Witchlight Carnaval, the proper way this time, and determined to find out what happened. Determined to take back what was stolen. The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is a bombastic Alice in a Wonderland adventure. Part of you has been lost in the bizarre realm of the Feywild, and you're on a journey to get it back. As you explore the Fey domain of Prismeer, you will meet a cast of colourful and quirky characters and no doubt land yourselves in all manner of fantastical hijinks along the way and a few unsettling bargains. You will be playing late teens or young adults who have known each other since childhood, and together we will tell a coming of age tale. Your characters will no doubt change for the better...or worse. And as you've probably guessed, this game will have a heavy emphasise on role-playing and storytelling. Combat won't always be the answer, but it certainly won't be missing.

Additional Details

How to prepare

Please have a stable internet connection that can handle zoom, a good mic to hear you clearly and a webcam so we can see you. You will also need a free DnD Beyond account. I recommend playing on a modern computer as you may find yourselves with a few tabs open.

What I provide

You will get access to my DnD Beyond content to create your character and all the digital handouts needed for the game. We will play via Zoom, where I will share ambient music to set the scene via Table Top Audio and Spotify. When A map is needed, we will you Owlbear Rodeo a simple, clean and easy way to show maps and player/monster tokens.

Gameplay details

Despite its colourful and wacky aesthetic, The Wild Beyond the Witchlight can be very Brother's Grimm storytelling and gets dark at times. One section of the game involves child labour, and although I will not depict overt cruelty, it may be implied in one chapter of the narrative. Other themes to be aware of are; childhood trauma, memory loss and dark bargains. If you are unsure or want me to expand on any of this, let me know.

How will character creation work

Please come with a ready level 1 character sheet via the DnD Beyond Link below or be happy to use one of the pre-generated characters provided. Please use standard array or point buy. During session zero, we will establish bonds and relationships between your characters and the curse that has been placed upon you. Note: As this is a low combat campaign (every encounter can be resolved without combat if you're clever), it is an excellent opportunity to try out some of the lesser-played subclasses that focus on intrigue and role play. If you are creating your character pre-session zero, please keep the following in mind. You are between the age of 16-20. You have lived in the same village you're whole life. Who are your parents and what's your relationship with them like? Do you have any siblings and what's your relationship with them like?

Players can expect
