About the adventure

Your team is one of the newest senior teams in the National Superhero and Metahuman Agency's Bright Futures Division, just coming off a job well done on your first official field mission. After all of the praise you received for that mission, all of you are expecting to be sent directly back into the field. Which is why it's so strange when your team is instead set to guard a secret item you don't know the identity of, in a section of NSMA HQ you don't remember how you got to, in a room you're not allowed to actually enter. None of your questions have been answered and now you're unable to reach anyone outside your team… and an alarm goes off. --------------------------------------- A Blind Date With Knowledge is a Masks: A New Generation game written and GMed by Celestine Nox. It's intended for four players and to take 2 sessions to complete. The setting is my own original setting, Bright City, rather than the pregenerated setting of Halcyon City. Bright City has its own lore and history, the relevant information of which will be provided to players before the game begins. We will be using a modified version of the Secrets of A.E.G.I.S. mechanics for the session 0, which includes a separate set of "When Our Teams First Came Together" questions. Expect heavy RP, heavy combat gameplay and some serious themes (you're not required to play super-serious characters, though!). Don't worry if you don't have any experience with the Powered by the Apocalypse system, Masks as a game, or with roleplaying! This two-shot is for players of all experience.

How to prepare

Here's what you should have: --Access to the core 10 Masks playbooks and the basic moves, both of which are available on the Magpie website as a free PDF download. --If you have experience with Masks and would like to play a supplemental playbook, this is fine. --At the very least, a couple of character concepts in case your first choice playbook is taken. --A Discord account if you don't already have one; they're free and easy to make. --A mic, but a webcam isn't necessary as video will not be a requirement or even desirable. --A headset, so there isn't any auditory weirdness. --You don't need physical dice as a dice-rolling bot will be in the server. If you feel like you might not be able to answer questions about your character quickly without any prior preparation, then by all means come up with answers to those questions beforehand; however, it'll definitely be okay to ask me or the other players for suggestions.

What I provide

I will provide a Discord server where players can meet each other and talk before and after the game. I'll also provide lore information for the Bright City setting. This will include a couple of maps of the city that may or may not end up being relevant as well as some floorplans of the environment in which the game mostly takes place.

Gameplay details

Players should expect some comic-book type combat and other themes depending on the characters in play. Lines and Veils will be utilized and followed without question; even if one person is interested in pursuing a theme, if it's a line for someone else then it won't be explored. However, memory erasure is part of the story and players need to be okay with that; if that's not something you enjoy in your ttrpgs, then this isn't the game for you.

How will character creation work

Character creation can begin on the Discord server if enough players sign up far enough in advance. Either way, we'll use the first two hours or so of the first session to work out character details and go through the character and team building questions that are a part of each playbook and from the Secrets of A.E.G.I.S. supplemental materials (players don't need to have this). If you want to think a lot about it beforehand that's totally fine, but it's also fine to just wing it during the first two hours!

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: High
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Medium
  • Experience Level: Open to all
