About the adventure

Long ago, a war between gods of good and evil scoured the surface of the world of Exandria. Both the noble Prime Deities and the selfish Betrayer Gods imbued their mortal champions with supernatural gifts that granted them strength enough to challenge their divine foes. The greatest of these champions was Alyxian the Apotheon, who received the blessings of three Prime Deities to save the world from the apocalyptic power of the Betrayer Gods. Centuries later, all knowledge of this godlike hero has been lost to time, and two groups of adventurers are called upon to retrace this mythic hero’s steps and free him from his timeless prison. The tale begins in lands familiar to Critical Role fans—the war-scarred wastes of Xhorhas and the glimmering oasis city of Ank’Harel—but ultimately stretches beyond the Material Plane to a realm of lightless despair known as the Netherdeep. This story takes place before the events of Critical Role's campaign 3, and we'll be playing using 5E, aka 2014 rules.

About me

I've been playing and GMing for roughly a year. Several of my friends enjoyed ttrpgs when I was growing up, but I never paid them much mind until covid lockdown began and I discovered Critical Role. After years of trying to get my current friend group to play, I finally got a group together, only for our GM to have to leave the group due to work scheduling, leaving me to take over. I have been running games almost every weekend since. I have ran games in D&D 5E(2014) and 5.5E(2024).

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done in DND Beyond using 5E (2014) rules. If you already have a character in mind, you can make it beforehand or we can create the party together in session zero. You have the option to roll for stats, use point buy, or use standard array. Any official 5E content is allowed.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a Discord account for communication/voice chat as well as a DND Beyond account for character sheets. We will use DND Beyond's Maps vtt.

What Matt aka Mathias brings to the table

I will provide several source books for character creation, ambient music to set the mood during the game, and a Rule of Cool playstyle that sticks mostly to the rules as written, but will bend them to allow cool stuff to happen when it's warranted. I'm not a voice actor, but I do try to make all my characters sound unique and/or distinct.

Homebrew rules

Drinking a health potion normally is a bonus action. You can drink it as an action to receive the max amount of healing. The Perkins Crit: Instead of doubling dice like normal, roll damage dice like normal, then add the maximum number on the dice, plus modifiers.
