About the adventure

You and your active retirement book club gal pals are guests at a fabulously exclusive Halloween party, but before you even get the chance to shake a leg to the Monster Mash, a mystery is afoot. The only people you can trust are the people you walked in with, and this kind of danger is best left to the police, but frankly... they're taking too long. Inspired by one of the most beloved daytime TV tropes, Brindlewood Bay asks you to walk a mile in the sensible shoes of an elderly lady enjoying your retirement with gossip, golden girl hijinks and solving the occasional grisly murder in your small town. Collect clues, interview suspects and poke your nose where it absolutely does not belong to solve the mystery. This learn-to-play is a fully contained one session mystery that will bring you through everything you need to know to be the next Miss Marple.

About me

For most of human history, we connected through shared stories and the act of imagining together, creating heroes, legends, and worlds with each other. I don't think we were ever meant to lose that. My name is (really) Kitty, and I'm a 🏳️‍🌈 mother of two from Ireland. In person, I run an afterschool D&D club and host learn-to-play events in my local community. Online, I love building and sharing big, beautiful worlds and seeing what amazing new stories my players will tell in them.

Character creation

Creating your character

You will be sent a character sheet and some information you will need to fill it out prior to the session. Some will be decided by you in advance, some will be a collaborative effort by everyone at the start of the session. Build the Murder Maven that feels the most exciting to you, whether they're a fish out of water who is missing their HOA meeting, or a seasoned amateur detective who the local police department hate to see coming.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use Alchemy RPG for dice, visuals, music, voice and video. Please sign up for a free account prior to the session. You can download the app if you wish, but it also runs well in-browser. Please make sure that your webcam and microphone are in good working order before the session: if we can't hear you, we can't play our best game together! No need to study up. You'll learn the game mechanics as we play.

What Kitty brings to the table

I will bring everything you need to have a cosy adventure, from music, to visuals, to NPCs who you help to shape with your interacts with them. I give you the building blocks to tell your character's story and decide their fate. As your GM, I'm your character's biggest fan, and I'll do everything I can to give them their time in the spotlight.

Safety

How Kitty creates a safe table

We will be doing the Deck of Player Safety at the top of the session, anonymously sharing what subjects the players would like to avoid. During play, we will use the X card functionality built into the VTT. At any time, a player can anonymously trigger the X card, which will be displayed on the screen. We will take a quick break, reset, and steer the scene in a different direction. Players should be aware that while this particular game is intended to be a goofy, fun one shot experience of Brindlewood Bay, the setting itself has a healthy helping of eldritch horror and adult themes.
