About the adventure

It is a Dark Time for the Galaxy. After 15 years of Imperial rule, even the most apolitical Coreworld moderate no longer denies the extent of their power. The wars have not stopped, the rich have only become wealthier, and the simplest expressions of political thought are being labeled terrorism. Throughout the galaxy, the long smoldering embers of revolt are bursting into the flames of open rebellion. Some have been kindled by an outlawed manifesto which has only begun to spread. Every act of insurrection pushes forward the battle lines in the fight for freedom. Yet, as their illusion of control is threatened, tyrants desperately wield their faltering power in acts of ever greater oppression. You and your fellows are the council of a small rebel cell, both operatives and leaders. Though your backgrounds are surely disparate, your goals are aligned: grow your team, reach out to other cells, and Fight the Empire! ** Classes from all sourcebooks can join (although force users act with greater peril); the frontier of the rebellion is everywhere. The tone should be somewhere between Andor and Rebels… which I guess is just Rogue One. This is a sandbox game where every skill will be useful. You are an ensemble cast with skills developed throughout all walks of life, not a hexcrawling party of adventurers. That means if the players decide to infiltrate an imperial outpost, the Spy might sneak in while the Doctor prepares sedatives, the Entertainer distracts the guards and the Hacker is the ‘guy in the chair’ monitoring the cameras and doors from a safe house.

About me

I’m James, and I love being a GM (way more than I like being a player). When I was a teenager in the 00’s, I couldn’t even get my closest friends to commit to a game of D&D. It was too nerdy, they’d said, even for them! (it wasn’t) Now that being a nerd is cool, I’m making up for lost time. Over the last 8 years, I’ve run a good hundred sessions of various game systems over different media for my friends. While I have and will run adventures, I prefer games as sandbox. I read more non-fiction than fiction, so my games have a focus that reflects my interests in economics, politics, and generally in verisimilitude; I’m less interested in exploring power fantasies than in exploring labor disputes and peculiar social traditions. That also means I work hard to create worlds and scenarios which do not revolve around the player, in which players are active agents in their own story rather than simply reacting to what I throw at them. I really love new players, especially the ones who don’t even know there’s a ‘box’ that they’ve been thinking outside of. Oh, and I’ll have a Master’s in Education at the end of December, so I believe me when I say I do not mind teaching new players. I recommend at least one in every game.

Character creation

Creating your character

Player should expect to build their characters during the FREE session 0. Characters do not need to be built around party synergy, because the game will be built around character skills and player and character goals.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You only need Discord and a microphone. This is played theatre of the mind with audio and visual elements. https://discord.gg/t822z6ZwZ3

What James brings to the table

I mostly play Genesys in theatre of the mind aided by audio and visual elements. This game should feel a little like X-COM, where players are engaged in tactical and strategic elements in their effort to grow their cell and expand the fight for the Republic. This is a sandbox game, and players should think about their and their character's goals along with ways to meet the goals of the cell. I love new players and encourage them to join!

Homebrew rules

I don't intend to use any homebrews. However, Genesys is an intentionally modifiable system, and potential weapons, mods, talents etc., are encouraged for consideration.

Safety

How James creates a safe table

I don't intend this game to have anything more questionable than the movies, but we will use lines and veils to address potential exceptions. Stars and Wishes is my personally preferred tool for session planning, and a free session zero to set bounderies and expectations.
