About the adventure
This one-shot is suitable for both new and veteran players. It is designed in such a way that it could evolve into pretty much any story/setting afterwards. After all, it is in the tavern where all mighty groups of heroes form. Outside, the biggest storm of the century is about to begin and you have just managed to reach a tavern called 'The Nobleman' on the roadside, seeking shelter from the approaching storm. You are just about to order food and ale when you realise that the storm outside has reached its peak. However, you also realise that this tavern is not as safe as you had hoped, as everyone inside seems to get frozen in time, except for you and some other guests. Trapped inside, you must figure out who has done this and why, because one by one, the other guests are being killed, and you might be next. If you are unfamiliar with any of the following systems, I will help you with them. We will use Discord to talk, so you will need a microphone and headphones. A camera is optional. We will use DnD Beyond to play.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hey! I'm Florian. I started playing DnD in 2021 and have been running my own campaigns as a Dungeon Master (DM) since 2023. My job as a high school teacher has given me an understanding of how to keep a group engaged and interested. I run my DnD sessions and my classrooms in a similar way (and no, I don't mean boring maths equations). I engage people by giving them plenty of opportunities to contribute and shape the session together. I also believe it's important for people to come up with their own solutions rather than just being told everything. As part of my education, I studied theatre education. While I wouldn't describe myself as an actor, I know the basics and enjoy bringing characters to life through voice and demeanour. I don't have any experience with other systems besides DnD, but I have seen them used in campaigns I have watched, such as Kids on Brooms and Vampire: The Masquerade. I love DMing/GMing and want to do more of it. So let's work together and create amazing worlds!

Creating your character
This will be a 1-lvl One-Shot. You can creat your own character on DnD Beyond - if you need help with that, let me know. You will only have basic starting items, so no magical items in generall. If there's something special you'd like, let me know and we can discuss it. There will be also pre-maid characters that you can choos from. I will write you on discord about your characters backstory. You can go as deep in depht as you like. The One-Shot will not inclued lots of your backstory, but for me and my GM stile I like to know where the characters at the table come from and where they wanna go. Please ensure that your character is ready and in the group on DnD Beyond at least 24 hours before the session.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Please complete these steps: 1. Create/Log in to Your Accounts - Discord: We will use this for voice chat. You need a free account. - D&D Beyond: We will use this for your character sheet and digital dice rolling and map. You need a free account. 2. Set Up Your Gear - A working microphone and headphones are required (headphones prevent echo/feedback during the game). - A webcam is completely optional. - No software downloads are needed. Both Discord and D&D Beyond can run directly in your web browser. 3. Join the Discord Server - After joining the game on StartPlaying, you should see a Discord invite link. - Once inside, look out for a direct message from me to discuss your character's motivation and backstory! 4. Join the campaign and prepare your character (Level 1) - Klick on the link here on startplaying to join the campaign. - Option A (Custom): Create a Level 1 character directly on D&D Beyond using standard starting equipment. - Option B (Pre-made): If you would prefer a pre-made character, you can claim one of those available. Make sure your character is finalized and added to the D&D Beyond campaign at least 24 hours before the game. If you have any questions, message me here or on Discord.
What Florian brings to the table
I have experience of being a DM, but I am new to starting out as a professional DM. That is why my service is kinda cheap at the moment. I will provide on-boarding help, general help for new players, the Discord server (where we will also have music playing) and the DnD Beyond setup. Now would be a good time to ask you to leave me a review on StartPlaying after our session. This would be a great help to me in the long run. It is not a must, but I would really appreciate it.
Homebrew rules
We'll come to those when the time comes. We mostly play by the "official" rules, but I am a fan of the rule of cool. I'm a big fan of Dimension 20, so that's the kind of vibe I'm going for, if you're familiar with it.

How Florian creates a safe table
Please arrive 10 minutes before the session starts! This will allow us to ensure that everyone is on Discord/DnD Beyond and that everything is working. Session outline: - First we will introduce everyone and their DnD history and their characters. - If a scene ever gets too intense or crosses a line for you, just type 'X' in the Discord chat (or say it out loud). We will instantly stop the scene, no explanation needed, and pivot the story. - We will start the session and then take a 5–10 minute break around every hour. - After the session, I would like to have a short debriefing talk (max. 10 minutes). This is just to make sure that everyone had a good time and to get some feedback.
