About the adventure

In the years that followed the Queen Regent, Alusair Obarskyr's great victory against the Orcs of the Kings Forest, all manner of unsavory characters became emboldened. No longer did the Orc's hold sway over trade routes and unchecked exploration. The queen's resources were scarce due to her loss of political support, and their lack of faith in her rule. Their respect for her bloodline it seems, died with her father, King Azoun. Ruling in her father's stead the best she could, the queen regent stayed close to her infant nephew, the future king. She watched as the Kingdom of Cormyr fell prey to crime and corruption in the absence of the full strength of Suzail's army due to political posturing, resulting in the loss of allies and resources. Order had to be restored to the kingdom. She knew that dispatching the Purple Dragon Knights of Cormyr would leave the kingdom vulnerable, so she decided to find strength elsewhere and sent out a royal decree, flooding the kingdom with its message. It was a call to arms for the everyday adventurer. Surely a promise of renown and her favor would create a movement of righteous intervention across the land. However, there was far more going on outside the walls of the capital than anyone knew. Something primal and ancient was lurking in the King's Forest. As time would eventually reveal, the Kingdom of Cormyr would come to need far more than just a group of ordinary adventurers. Cormyr would need heroes whose deeds would become legend and whose names would leak from the pens of the royal scribes for years to come. Though, whether these heroes existed remained to be seen. (This campaign will be ongoing and lengthy, but still ideal for new and beginning players who want to start off with a weekly adventure.

About me

Hello!! My name is Andy and I have been immersed in the Dungeons & Dragons world since I was around 15-years-old. I started being a Dungeon Master for my group of friends in my early 20's and let’s just say I was hooked!! I am a 48-year-old working dad now and I still love Dungeons & Dragons just as much as I did back then, perhaps even more to be honest. I am extremely excited to run games on this platform, meet new people, and most importantly, HAVE FUN DOING IT! In addition to being an experienced Dungeon Master, I am also a content creator on DMs Guild where I have designed and written several of my own products which have been downloaded over a thousand times! I am very detail oriented, a great writer and map maker, and I am very good at making you use your brains! Ultimately the game of Dungeons and Dragons should be a fun experience, and I will always do everything I can to ensure that you enjoy the story, the world, and the characters along the way. My campaigns are also good for a few good laughs as well. I believe adding a little comedy to my campaigns to be an absolute must. I mean life is short, if you’re not laughing you’re not doing it right. I am new to this platform, but I hope you will come and experience the game with me. I have been working extremely hard on "The Black Blood Tide", and it is going to be an amazing campaign. I will be waiting!!

Character creation

Creating your character

This campaign will require a session zero. A session zero is the very first session of a campaign where characters are created, player introductions are made, and expectations are set. (I will never charge for a session zero. It will be free. Keep in mind it will not be listed as free upfront, you will see the session cost regardless. I will have to alter that individual session. You will not be charged for a session zero.) Characters will be created within the Roll20 TTRPG platform, and this same platform will be used for the campaign. Stats will be decided by the dice roll feature within the Roll20 platform. Starting levels will be level 1. This campaign is designed for characters who are just entering their adventuring years, and there will be roughly a 10 level progression over the course of the campaign. This campaign is set for four players and classes are predetermined. I may be swayed on this but no promises. I would prefer the following classes be present in the campaign. Sorcerer Cleric Ranger Fighter These classes will allow for the best group dynamic and performance for this campaign. For this campaign you will make your characters in the character creation feature in Roll20 which has all of the mechanics of the Player's Handbook built into it. (Dungeons & Dragons 5e - 2014 preferred) If you are new do not be overwhelmed, we will get you there! I have the 2014 copy and will have all the information available for any rule or question that arises during gameplay or character creation, and although I do not curreently have the 2024 edition, I will likely be purchasing it soon on the Roll20 platform. During our session zero we will cover everything so that we are all ready to go. So join me for this campaign and lets have some fun!!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

For this campaign all players will need is a decent desktop computer or laptop capable of running the Roll20 platform, a mic, a web camera (Camera use not required but preferred), and an account on the Roll20 TTRPG platform for the campaign. The Roll20 account is free just sign up and your ready to go!

What The Dungeon Scribe brings to the table

I am a very creative person, a great writer and map maker, and I excel at creating situations that require thought. Things may not always be what they seem, or maybe they are exactly what they seem. You never know. You will need to pay attention to details, and be ready to use your character's skills. In my campaigns weapons, strength and combat abilities are indeed vital chartacter traits, but your skills are one of the best tools to allow your character to learn information, or notice clues. It is not just about combat. I like to throw an equal amount of roleplay, mystery and fighting into my campaigns. Remember, knowledge is power both in life and in D&D.

Homebrew rules

As of this moment I plan to honor the core rulebooks with the exception of a few mechanics that I honestly feel overcomplicate things unnecessarily, and are a drag on the game. Encumbrance for instance is one rule that in my opinion, while it is logical, keeping track of every little realism can ruin the experience. I prefer to just use logic and reasoning. If any rules change during game play I will be open about the adjustment, and will only do so if I think changing a rule improves gameplay or a player's experience.

Safety

How The Dungeon Scribe creates a safe table

I try to do my best at listing all the content warnings i think may come up in my campaigns, some of them may not even come up I dont know to be honest. I want everyone of my players to be confortable and have a great time and I believe in the safety tools and will use many of them, as well as sending all of my players a copy of the StartPlaying safety tools. If you are using a webcam, at any time during the game you fell uncomfortable with the content of the story, you can hold up a piece of paper with an X and that will tell me that an adjustment to the content is needed. Hold up an N if you feel like the games content is heading in an uncomfortable direction, and the O is to check with players at certain times. It is mostly used by the GM to check with the players during intense parts of the story to make sure everyone is comfortable. You can also type any of these commands into the chat at any time for the same function. With all that being said I do ask that you check the content warnings before booking a spot in my campaign. I would hate to make anyone uncomfortable or upset them in any way. Keep in mind that this is a game with fighting and combat, death is a guaranteed part of it, as is the occassional bit of blood or gore. There are many safety tools in place that I will use and honor at anytime if a player is uncomfortable with the story or the descriptive way that I may detail it.
