About the adventure

In this fast -paced, high stakes one-shot, you and your team of Lvl. 8 adventurers will have three real life hours to survive the horrors of Castle Ravenloft, gather artifacts of great power, and kill the dark lord Strahd von Zarovich before time runs out and he finds you first. This game is not recommended for beginner or slower paced players, as we will be racing against time to find the items needed to help you survive the night. Besides two 10 minute breaks that will count as in-game short rests, this one-shot will be non-stop from the time we you enter the castle, to when either you or Strahd lays dead. Before the game, I give players a live Tarokka card reading, revealing the locations of artifacts, weapons, allies, and where you can find Strahd himself. Every reading is randomized, so no two nights at Castle Ravenloft are ever the same.

About me

I have been a professional Dungeon Master for the last 4 years with experience in Pathfinder and Dungeons & Dragons, currently focusing on 5th edition DnD. I am passionate about building immersive, fun and unpredictable games that allow space to craft unique stories with my players. I have a strong professional acting and stage combat background and over 10 years of improv training, which lends itself well to roleplay and world building in my campaigns. The online TTRPG system I use is DnD Beyond, however I am open to other systems. Fully virtual, hybrid, and in-person games are all my specialty, particularly when integrating maps and character minis. Games with me focus on crafting fun for each particular player, with rules utilized to enhance players' enjoyment, while simultaneously crafting deep and rich worlds in which characters are invited to explore, fight, and live in. I have a flexible schedule - contact me and let's have some fun together!

Character creation

Creating your character

This one-shot is made for Lvl. 10 Characters with the 5.5e rule set. Stats should be created though standard array or point buy. Official content for character creation is preferred, but feel free to reach out if you have homebrew or other content you want included in your character and we can see if it works. Besides your starting equipment and gold, you may choose the following to start with: -2 Uncommon (or lesser) Magic Items -Extra 300 GP to spend on equipment Because of the timed nature of the one-shot, please familiarize yourself with your character's abilities, traits, and spells before we game time so that we can jump right in!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will be talking though a discord server, so a discord account is needed. Making characters on DnD Beyond is also recommended. We will also be using Owlbear Rodeo for our maps, but no account or set up is required on the player's end.

What Kyle (Captain) brings to the table

I try bring all the necessary tools to create a game night to remember. My games utilize ambient music and sound effects throughout, I use different theatrical voices for every character, and I've programed dynamic lighting for the maps we use. Player creativity is a priority during my games, and I rarely give out a flat 'no' without discussion. While I keep ruling consistent, I believe that the rule of cool is a DM's most powerful tool, and is necessary to keep the game fun and flowing. I enjoy when my players keep me on my toes because that's when I'm able to improvise.

Safety

How Kyle (Captain) creates a safe table

I keep an open door policy for my players to come to be at any time. Open communication is key for everyone at the table to feel comfortable and welcome. Before we start I invite players to reach out to me publicly or privately about any concerns or special needs they might have, and I always do my best to support. Any kind of racism, sexism, and other forms of bigotry are strictly forbidden, and players promoting such will be swiftly kicked from the game. Afterwards, I invite everyone to give feedback and to debrief. I am always interested in knowing what went well, and what can be done to improve for next time.
