About the adventure

You and your party have been entrusted, by the King, with transporting a mysterious package of vital importance to the sleepy forest village of Hush. Deep in the Sablewood, the woods are home to hybrid animals, occasional bandits, and worshippers of the Forgotten Gods. What will you encounter? And how will your choices shape the world around you? Sablewood Messengers is the official quickstart module for Daggerheart, and touches on all of the major points you need to know to start your journey in this collaborative, storytelling TTRPG system.

About me

For most of human history, we connected through shared stories and the act of imagining together, creating heroes, legends, and worlds with each other. I don't think we were ever meant to lose that. My name is (really) Kitty, and I'm a πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ mother of two from Ireland. In person, I run an afterschool D&D club and host learn-to-play events in my local community. Online, I love building and sharing big, beautiful worlds and seeing what amazing new stories my players will tell in them.

Character creation

Creating your character

You may choose from one of five pre-made characters on the day of the campaign on a first come, first serve basis. Marlowe Fairwind (Loreborne Elf Sorcerer) - she appears calm... until she isn't. Barnacle (Underborne Ribbet Rogue) - there's no danger he will not get into... except water. Garrick Reed (Highborne Human Warrior) - kill 'em with kindness... if that doesn't work, just kill 'em. Varian Soto (Wildborne Katari Ranger) - any problem that can't be solved with a bow... isn't a problem yet. Khari Nix (Ridgeborne Giant Guardian) - practically born with an axe in her hand ... don't make her use it.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

No prep needed. The campaign link for the game and a link to my discord will be shared once you have joined. If you would like to do some study beforehand, the "Get Your Sheet Together" series on Youtube is recommended.

What Kitty brings to the table

We will be playing an immersive experience with voice, video, scenes, maps, music and some limited animation on Alchemy VTT. You can expect some opportunities to roleplay, problem solve, interact with party members and NPCs and more than one combat to practice your new skills. As this is a learn to play, questions are warmly welcomed before, during and after - I want you to leave this experience feeling confident enough to join your first Daggerheart campaign. I am used to teaching and if I do not have an answer, I will try my best to help you find one.

Safety

How Kitty creates a safe table

Before playing, we will do the Deck of Player Safety. Players will anonymously choose and submit pre-made cards with common triggers, or fill out their own. We will then review as a group which topics have been flagged as unsuitable for this one-shot, and avoid bringing them into roleplay. During play The content warnings flagged below cover everything that has the potential to happen, and include eventualities steered by player decisions that are not probable. On paper, Sablewood Messengers has a family friendly rating. Alchemy has a built-in X card functionality: if, at any stage, a player feels uncomfortable with a topic, they can indicate this with an anonymous X card. Play will stop immediately, and after a short break, resume, avoiding the topic that triggered the pause.
