About the adventure

Deep in the world of witchcraft and wizardry, where magic abounds and is the solution to nearly all problems, there remains one non-magical profession that requires an unfortunate several years of extra schooling - the law. Not many witches or wizards decide to pursue a profession as a solicitor or attorney, but of those that do, the very best end up at Gideon's. The Academy is renowned for producing many a brilliant witch or wizard who have assisted in drafting key provisions of international magical law, or overseen the divorces of famous warlocks, or led the charge for more equitable treatment of the animals involved in wand production. Magic itself is deeply complex and almost eternally evolving - and so the upkeep of magical law demands lawyers of equal talent, the drive to work hard, and the will to attempt to create and enforce structure on a world that seems without bounds. You find yourself now in these hallowed halls as the October break is about to begin. Many of your fellow students and even faculty leave for the holiday to enjoy one last hurrah in the warm weather at home or abroad. But you are here - for some reason. And so is something much darker, and much more sinister than you or any of your peers can possibly imagine. ~~~~~~~ But really! Sinister lurking baddies aside - this game is for all those who wish they could spend the month of October in the halls of a wizardry school, or behind the workbench of a green witch's training hall in a mystical forest, or just cuddled up with a cup of chai living vicariously through the magic in a favorite book. For me, this game is my chance to work with a table of creative players who have a deep love for fantasy, TTRPGs, and the love of all things spooky-season-esque. I hope we can craft a fun adventure that will make your month feel even more special! I am hoping to run a weekly Thursday table and a weekly Tuesday table through the month of October!

About me

Hi, my name is Wynn. I am a dad, volunteer, and attorney who lives on the east coast. I'm originally from Western NY (Go Bills!) and have lived in a variety of places around the country. In my day job I get really stressed out, so this is what I do for fun! I had parents who would never have let me near DND as a kid, but who also encouraged me to embrace the worlds of Tolkien, Lewis, L'Engle, and so many more. I grew up with friends who would make wooden swords with me and reenact Redwall scenes out in the grove of trees behind their house. My imagination ran wild. In primary and secondary school, and then in college as well, I became invested in theater of all kinds - Shakespeare, musicals, opera - you name it. I loved being on stage and behind the scenes as well. Given all of those things - it only makes sense that when I finally stumbled upon the world of TTRPGs as an adult I felt like I had found what I'd been missing for such a long time. I dove in head-first, inundating myself first in the work of Critical Role and then on from there. I GMed many times before ever having the chance to play myself, but have been fortunate to be a player several times now - including on a recent (and fantastic) Daggerheart campaign through SPG! I can't wait to connect with more amazing people.

Character creation

Creating your character

Your character will be in their first, second, or third year of magical law school. First years will be about a month into their experience - far more nervous, excited, busy, eager, etc. Second years will have already survived their first year - calmer, settled into the routine, wary of failure but confident of their skills, etc. Third years will be pushing through to get done - confident, eager for what's next, perhaps ready to be done, etc. I am open to all types of magical species, origins, fun creative backgrounds - let's chat about your ideas and design someone you will really love playing! After you hop into the game I will provide you with some more guidelines to start brainstorming both your character from a fun design standpoint but also what the stats/dice will look like, etc. It's a really easy system to jump into - so don't stress that! We'll all be learning and mastering it as we go along!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I would definitely recommend watching even just some of the first season of Misfits & Magic from Dimension 20 - the players are incredible, they have SO much fun, and the vibes are just the best. All you'll need practically is a Discord account and an Owlbear account. No need to purchase any content or anything of that nature! We'll do personal character sheets (I will provide a PDF) and then you will just share them with me and monitor them personally as we go along!

What Wynn brings to the table

I am a theatre kid at heart, and an attorney by trade. I am SO excited to finally marry those two things together in the TTRPG world. I will do my best to do voice, run Kenku Radio in the background of sessions for music and vibes. I have NPCs that are rich and (hopefully) entertaining and engaging to interact with. You can expect a significant amount of roleplay, a balanced amount of magical combat, and a fast-paced story-telling mode that encourages creativity and improvisation by giving you the space you need as a player to truly help build this world and your place in it. I absolutely believe in the Rule of Cool! And I love to work with players to help them achieve their hopes and dreams both within the story and above the table.

Homebrew rules

This is a short campaign! As such, I am not intending to kill anyone's character during something designed to be purely good fun. We will be relying heavily on the Kids on Brooms rules regarding injuries or death - with the understanding that if your character is hit hard enough to kill them then they will fall unconscious and face a permanent consequence of some kind as a result. I will make sure this is all reviewed in our Session 0!
